Accounts Receivable at a large downtown church in Birmingham. Baking used to be my therapy but I've gotten away from it. Getting back into it in 2011 and expanding my talents to other types of cooking and foods.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake desserts, casseroles, brunch, and holiday recipes. I love to add my own touches and to make up recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Decortating sugar cookies at the holidays.
My cooking triumphs
1. My first attempt at southern cornbread followed by cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving turned out flawless. 2. Finally getting my great-grandmother's meatball recipe perfect (and I'm a vegetarian)!
My cooking tragedies
1. Recently made southern cornbread and used plain corn meal, not the self rising kind. Actually made three batches before I gave up. Didn't realize my mistake until a few days later.
2. My standard dessert for Thanksgiving is Paula Deen's Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake. Was so overworked and overworked by the time I started baking in the wee hours of the morning-- just a few hours before the Macy's Parade started. I completely forgot to add the Confectioner's Sugar. Since this recipe calls for 1 lb. of the white stuff, you can correctly assume that this was a complete disaster!!
