I am a 26 yr old newly wed and I have decided to perfect my "semi-home" cooking style. I love to bake goodies and i am learning new things everyday. I love this site because it has helped me to dazzle my hubby and friends with my culinary skills.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook Mexican foods and I think that stems from my hispanic heritage...also as a Spanish teacher I have learned many new recipes from various Spanish-speaking countries. I also LOVE Italian cuisine!
My favorite family cooking traditions
For Christmas, instead of the traditional turkey or ham, I love to prepare PAELLA and Chilean Empanadas. Yum Yum!
My cooking triumphs
My husband is the "soul food" type and I have learned to make a delicious Sweet Potato Pie!
My cooking tragedies
I also made a mean mac n cheese but it was my own twist to the boxed kind. Boxed mac n cheese was a no no to my husband, so it took about 5 times to make an amazing baked homecooked, made from scratch Mac 'n Cheese

Crock-Pot(R) Chicken Chili
I needed something quick to throw in the crockpot and come upon this recipe. I had everything but the green salsa, so I improvised with what I did have and threw in a can of ranch style beans with jalapenos. I upped the oregano to 3/4, added a packet of dry ranch, and added some garlic for flavor. Put it on high for 4 hrs, and came home to deliciousness! Served with shredded sharp cheddar, sour cream, and warm flour tortillas. It was awesome! Would recommend to anyone. I'm sure if mine was thrown together and improvised that the original version with green salsa is even more delicious.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic
I followed the advice and did 1/3 c white sugar and 2/3 c of brown sugar. Baked and then peeled the potatoes. We also made it even sweeter by adding the marshmallows. It turned out amazing! More of a dessert though. Took place of my pies. But a lot easier to make, I feel. I prepared it the night before Thanksgiving and baked it on Thanksgiving Day. Turned out beautifully. Would definitely recommend.

Broccoli Casserole I
I used 1 can of cream of mushroom and 1 can of cream of chicken. Turned out amazing! Added 1/4 cup of butter and a sleeve of Ritz cracker crumbles for the top, with some shredded sharp cheddar cheese, turned out to be a big hit at Thanksgiving. Taste just like O'Charley's version, which I love!
