Fabulous Wet Burritos

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2013
Well, after reading reviews I agree that there are so many different variations to this recipe that I can't imagine how you would rate it in the first place. If you want "authentic", why would you make this at all. Did you read the ingredient list and directions?? I made this exactly as written and it was fine for a quick dinner. No complaints in my house. Please, if you are going to rate a recipe make it as submitted or post your own.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
I love when a good cook knows a good recipe. It was as the name describes, "delicious!!" This recipe does not need any alterations just maybe a few personal preferences. I also added carrots then topped it off with fresh parsley for color. Thank you for submitting this wonderful soup. It's a keeper!

Slow Cooker Chicken Marrakesh

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
After 3 1/2 hrs. the sweet potatoes were still hard as a rock. Also, this recipe is very dry. I had to add more liquid because the chicken was drying out. Finished it in the oven. After we all had our taste test, we concluded it wasn't worth the effort. Sorry

Buttermilk Pie Crust

Reviewed: May 3, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly as stated. I don't think this is the best pie crust but it's a good one. The oil makes it a little sticky to roll out. I will eliminate this next time. Also will cut back on the amount of buttermilk. If it's not holding together quite enough a little ice water is all you need. My husband will be the judge tonight. He usually only likes my recipe. We'll see.

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
These were a hit in our house! I've never had a real Chicago dog before so I can't compare them to anything else. I just had to substitute the sport peppers with tiny tobasco peppers from a jar. Really really good. Thank you for sharing

Carne en su Jugo (Meat in its Juices)

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2011
I felt this was a very good recipe, however next time I make it I will use stewing meat.. Flank steak is for quick searing not a long simmer. Definitely not tender enough after about an hour. Also, there is no need to warm the beans ahead of time just throw them in the pot about five minutes before the soup is done. Make sure you rinse and drain the beans first or you will get a pastey taste. You don't need chicken granuels if you don't have them. Use 3 boullion cubes. Same thing. I actually used chicken "stock" (not broth) for more flavor and additional liquid. I served this with all the toppings mentioned but added Mexican shredded cheese, sour cream and crushed lime flavored Xochitl tortilla chips. These chips are very thin and crispy. Excellent!!

Crabmeat Quiche

Very good. Everyone in my house liked it. I used "lump" crab meat. It's costly but makes a big difference.

Couscous Salad with Dried Cherries

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
My husband is part Lebanese so I usually have all of these ingredients on hand. I only added fresh lemon juice right before serving. We don't typically eat couscous without it. This is a very refreshing recipe. Good for you too. Everyone loved it so I guess this one is a keeper.

Feta Cheese Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
After quickly scanning this recipe I think they should be called "Italian Turkey Burgers." My thoughts of Feta cheese is "Greek." So, I used 1 1/2 lbs ground turkey breast, 2 tsp. greek seasoning & 1/2 cup Mediterranian Olives packed in olive oil. I also mixed the feta cheese right in the ground turkey. Fried them in a skillet with a little olive oil. I then brushed extra virgin olive oil on whole wheat buns and lightly toasted them. Topped the burgers with baby spinach leaves and a splash of fresh lemon juice. Totally healthy and delicious. I served these with a healthy greek salad . FYI: greek seasoning contains: onion powder, mint, oregano, garlic powder & sea salt. Gives the turkey burgers a little more flavor than all oregano. Try it!!

Beef, Green Chili and Tomato Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2011
I'm sorry but this dish is completely flavorless. The only good thing I can say is the chuck (stewing meat) comes out very tender but any meat will simmered for 2 1/2 hours.

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2010
This was a perfect recipe for Christmas morning. I did, however, double the recipe and used 1 lb. Jimmy Dean Breakfast Sausage and 1 lb. Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage. I also used texas toast instead of regular bread. Since there were so many slices, I just put them on a large cookie sheet and popped them under the broiler for a few minutes on each side. Less expensive that way than using bagged croutons like some others used. Very delicious!!

This lacked flavor for us. We all agreed that something is missing from this. It is a very good base recipe though. Will cut back on the lemon juice next time for sure.

Buffalo Style Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2010
This recipe is very good but I did use Boboli pizza crusts to give it more stamina because the chicken makes it very heavy. Also used bottled wing sauce instead of making my own. It's just faster & easier that way. I will make this again in the future. Thank you for submitting.

Dakota's Texas Style Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2010
Even though we truly like hot & spicy foods, this was a little much. It is definitely not a recipe you would use when company is coming unless you know for sure they like extra hot foods. I'm all for Texas style chili but from what I've eaten in the past, this isn't it. Sorry..

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2010
I echo other reviews in that you must dredge the chicken in flour first. Medium high heat is required to brown the chiken quickly so it doesn't dry out. Also, double the sauce recipe especially if you're serving the chicken under rice. A small bag of chinese vegetables would be great in this. Just make sure your veggies are completely thawed first before adding them to the sauce. I only gave it three stars because I had to do too much tweaking to make it work. For such a simple recipe, it shouldn't make you crazy.
