Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
This recipe must be followed to a T in order for it to be a success. It never fails. The texture is perfect and creamy and soft. It has just the right amount of sweetness.

Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2014
Very good filling. I found it to be very versatile as well. I didn't have all the ingredients so i had to modify quite a bit. I had run out of brown sugar so i used white instead (reduced the amount considerably). Also i did not have cornstarch so i used custard powder. I will make this version again.

Sesame Noodles

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2014
Tastes like restaurant noodles. I added shrimp and cabbage. Great taste. Kids really enjoyed it. The only change i made wad to use malt vinegar instead of rice vinegar bc that's what i had. Also i only used 1 spoon of the malt.

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2014
The recipe on it's own is 4 star. The reason i'm rating it a 5 is because of it's versatility. I scaled the measurements down to 15 servings so that i could have a manageable amount. Put it in an empty pickle jar and left it on the countertop for easy use. Since making it i've used it not only as a salad dressing, but also as a marinade for grilled chicken, roasted veggies, and steak (with the addition of soy sauce). The steak was phenominal cooked to medium-well done.

Apple Squares

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
Always a hit when I serve this. I usually substitute half the white flour for whole wheat. The kids don't notice a thing. Warning - this is very sweet, particularly if you are using sweet apples, like Gala. Still it is very tasty.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
Never fails. Very easy to make. It is the best homemade crust i have ever made. Sometimes I double up the recipe and freeze one ball of dough right after kneading. I put it in a large oiled freezer bag, pressing out the air before closing. Voila! Frozen pizza dough ready to defrost and rise on the counter (still in the bag) the next time pizza is on the menu. My kids actually tell me that it's as good or better than some of the pizza chain stores. Another tip is to make mini pizzas and put them in the freezer wrapped in foil. Reheat in the oven for only a few minutes. I also pack the mini pizzas for the kids' school lunches.

Garlic Roasted Chicken and Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2014
I was looking for an easy no-fuss recipe and voila here it is. Where have you been all these years? This was phenomenal!!!!:-D My family of 7 finished it off with no leftovers. Even I was scraping the bottom to gooble up the gooey pan drippings. I followed the recipe pretty closely except for 2 things. I used warm honey mixed with a dollop of butter instead of the maple syrup as I was out, and I added some dried rosemary 'cause that's what you do with the delectable roasted garlic. Thanks to the submitter for a great recipe.

Egyptian Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2014
I will rate this a 5 because it is an excellent recipe. I prefer a balance of equal parts cumin to coriander powder though. Nevertheless it is very healthy and can be easily modified according to personal preference. If no fresh tomatoes are available, use a tbsp of tomato paste. If you like olive oil then sautee onions in it before adding the rest of the ingredients. Olive oil and a dash of lemon juice adds a nice finishing touch too. More people should try this recipe.

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
I pour the hot mixture into paper cups for individual servings. Some of my kids find it too rich for their palates, so they often don't eat too much at one sitting, although they love it. Serving in paper cups also allows me to control how many servings they get, and that everyone gets an equal share. TIP: to balance out the richness and sweetness of the pudding, serve cooled with a tablespoon of UNSWEETENED whipped cream. This is an excellent recipe, particularly because it is so tasty and so easy to make.

Clinton's Special Vegetarian Quiche

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
This was really good. The kids said they liked it because it didn't have the 'eggy' taste. The cottage cheese gives it a ricotta texture. I baked these in 12 muffin tins using puff pastry squares. I had some left over egg mixture so I baked that in a small pyrex baking dish without the crust for a wheat free option. Everything was baked in about 25 min. I also used frozen spinach instead of fresh because that's what I had on hand. I also used green onion instead of regular onion because of personal preference. I omitted the nutmeg because I don't like nutmeg in cheese dishes. Again because of the kids, I left out the bottom onion and tomato layer. It seems like a lot of changes but the basic egg mixture was the same, minus the nutmeg. I will make this again. I served the leftovers for breakfast the next morning. It's great for those vegetarian dinners, and for breakfast. To reheat the next morning, just put on a baking sheet and warm in the oven at 350 deg for about 10 min.

Easy Oven Brown Rice

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2014
This is completely foolproof. I have followed this recipe to a T, and mixed it up a bit for a change of flavour. Each time it has been perfect. My favourite variation is to sautee some onions in the butter, then to add some chopped mushrooms and a clove of crushed garlic, and to replace some of the liquid with pureed canned tomatoes. Another tasty variation is to add a soup cube and some broccoli florets. Anything works as long as the method and rice/liquid ratio is kept the same. Thanks to the submitter. I now enjoy brown rice.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

This was extremely tasty and moist. I had cooked mashed pumpkin, but not enough, so i added shredded apples to make up for it. It still turned out perfect.

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
Very good, but a little too sweet from the condensed milk and chocolate chips. Still everyone liked it. The only other problem was that the chocolate chips were mostly at the top of the cake. I followed the tips of other reviewers but it still didn't stay down once the batter was poured in.

Authentic Bangladeshi Beef Curry

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2013
Very flavourful, and tastes almost as good as the curry my Bengali friend makes. That's why it's only a 4. But it's better than i can come up with on my own. Definitely will make again.

Super Easy Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2014
Good recipe. Tried as written as well as with mustard as some reviewers suggested. Dipped in butter is the way to go. Much tastier. The only suggestion I would make would be to brush chicken with melted butter before putting in the oven. Also best if baked at 375 degF.

Chinese Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2013
This was quite good. Made it without cornstarch to cut the carbs. Also used honey instead of sugar. The only problem was that i found it to be too salty. I ended up adding a little water and then spooning the extra liquid out. That helped to decrease the saltiness. The texture still turned out good.

Spinach and Rice (Spanakorizo)

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
I used brown rice and substituted the dill weed for oregano because i didn't have the dill. I also used fresh parsley instead of dried. It was pretty good, but I will use less tomato sauce next time. I also added a clove of garlic as it seemed it would lack flavour otherwise.
