Really Wicked Spinach Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2014
Delicious! I left out the red pepper flakes, only because I don't like them, but made everything else as written. This is creamy, rich, and it tastes amazing on little diced pieces of sourdough bread for serving. I had this out as an appetizer for Christmas and we ate half the pan!

Cracked Sugar Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2014
Great recipe that produces yummy, nostalgic sugar cookies, and I love that you don't have to chill the dough before you bake. I made the recipe exactly as written and found it to be a little dry, so I just added about 2 tsp. of milk and it was perfect. This is a keeper and will be a go-to for Christmas baking.

Chef John's Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2014
YUM! I would recommend doubling the recipe, though. The recipe as written doesn't make very much. I thought I could taste a little too much vanilla as the recipe is written, so while it was mixing in the stand mixer, I threw in two tablespoons of organic peanut butter, and then it tasted like heaven. I am definitely keeping this recipe.

I made this recipe exactly as written and I thought it was excellent. I might add a little more sugar next time, but overall, great taste!

Blueberry Lemon Walnut Bread

Reviewed: May 29, 2013
This made a great looking loaf. I thought the recipe was fine -- the bread turned out moist and paired well with morning coffee. I doubled the recipe and I made one loaf as a gift for my mother-in-law and the other for my parents. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because I just felt like it needed a little something extra. Maybe some more lemon in the batter or a different glaze. I like the lemon-sugar glaze as it is, but I think if I did more of a strudel type topping next time or a powdered sugar based frosting drizzle, it would be amazing!

Blueberry Popovers

Reviewed: May 12, 2013
I have to agree with the other reviewer on this recipe. It was very easy, which made a nice Mother's Day breakfast, but they were pretty eggy. I understand that with three eggs they're going to be eggy, but I just felt like they could use a little more sweetness in them. I used some melted butter and the remaining cinnamon+sugar mixture and poured that over the top of them once I plated them, and that did make them pretty sweet. For next time, I thought about using two eggs and then putting some vanilla flavored coffee creamer and a few spices incorporated into the batter, like nutmeg and cinnamon sugar, and instead of using white sugar, maybe brown sugar. I'm not sure. I'm not saying this is a bad recipe at all, because it's not, I just would prefer a little less egg texture and a little more sweetness. With some tinkering around, I think this could be wonderful.

I want to add an update: When you make this pizza, and if you have leftovers, it tastes even better after letting it sit in the fridge overnight!! YUM.

Cracked Wheat Bread II

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2013
SO good! This is a light, simple recipe. I, too, was afraid that this was going to be a dense bread, but I'm pleasantly surprised. I did have to let the bread rise for quite a while the second time, probably close to another hour instead of a half hour, and the loaves still turned out a little on the small side. I will just have to let them rise longer next time to achieve the desired height. I have no complaints about the taste of the bread, though. This recipe makes great toast in the morning.

Blood Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2013
I have never seen blood oranges before. I called my local supermarket and had them special order them for me just to make this recipe :-) I thought it produced a very juicy tasting chicken. I was surprised that it did not have an overwhelming orange taste to it. The sauce is yummy, and I didn't have any white wine, but I did have red wine, so I used that in the sauce and it still tasted great. That is the only thing I did differently about this recipe, otherwise, I followed it exactly. I wouldn't change anything. Great dish!

No Bakes

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2013
These are my husband's favorite cookies, and they are so easy to make. I just cut it down to one cup of sugar because I didn't want these to turn out too sweet, but other than that, excellent cookies.

Root Beer Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2013
This was okay. I marinated the chops all day in the root beer, but in the end, I thought they would have a lot more flavor. They has a slight root beer taste, but not much else. It did make the chops very juicy, so that was a plus, but I felt like there was more I had expected out of the recipe.

LC'S Sweet Potato Fries

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2013
Yum! These are a great, healthy way to sneak vegetables into your kids. My three-year-old had no problem polishing off his helping! The spices add to the sweet flavor with a bit of kick. The only thing I would recommend is baking the fries at 425 for 40 minutes on a cookie sheet instead of pan frying them. I tried pan frying a handful of them and then baked the rest in the oven, but the pan fried ones didn't turn out nearly as good as the baked ones. It is true that sweet potato fries don't get as crispy as regular potatoes, so don't expect these to be crunchy; just expect them to be delicious!

Black Magic Cake

YEAH! This was the chocolate cake I had been striving for! Add just a little bit more cocoa powder if you're an extreme chocolate lover and you'll be satisfied. The coffee really adds that something extra I had been wanting in a chocolate cake.

Angel Food Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2013
I followed everything in this recipe: sifting five times, using cake flour, putting the cake in the cold oven... nope. The cake came out of the pan fine for me, but it did not rise very much and it was chewy and rubbery. I tried to get some moisture into it with a strawberry glaze and whipped cream, and that made it okay. Waste of time, effort, and money. I would have been better off buying angel food cake from the store.

Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2013
Oh good Lord. YUM. That's about all I can say. I had cream cheese stuffed french toast once in my life at IHOP, and this recipe is right on par with it. This is so simple to prepare and cook, and it looks very elegant when it's all put together. Like a lot of people said, this french toast is very filling and one little triangle of this will probably do the trick to fill you up, especially if you serve it with coffee, juice, or fresh berries on the side. I thought I would add this note: To cut a few calories, you can also just spread light cream cheese or Neufchatel cheese between the slices of bread instead of mixing in the sugar/vanilla mixture, and instead of putting butter in the pan to brown the toast, use a no calorie PAM spray and leave out topping your toast with whipped cream. Absolutely wonderful recipe. I will be making this again!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2013
This was my first time trying this recipe out.I like that it is a very simple crust to make with items you probably already have on hand. There was enough dough to make two pizza crusts, one for a 16 inch pan and one for a 12 inch pan. The dough had a very nice consistency and was easy to roll out. I did not use a pizza stone, and based on other reviewers, I pre-baked my crust for five minutes before adding the sauce and toppings. I also brushed the crust with melted butter and garlic before I popped it in. I baked each pizza for 17 minutes once I put everything on it, and the crust came out beautifully. It was light and crispy underneath the pizza and slightly crispy, but soft inside around the edges. My only drawback with this crust is that it isn't very flavorful on its own, which is why I am so glad I decided to put that butter/garlic concoction on before I baked it! It's an easy problem to solve with just a pinch of various spices. Next time I think I will add minced garlic to the dough itself while mixing it. This is a keeper for me.

Sunshine Toast

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2013
I used to have these when I would visit my great aunt in her retirement home. They called them "Popeyes" there. I have not had them since then, and I came across this recipe yesterday and was reminded of how much I used to like them. This is such a quick and easy breakfast that you can really make for a casual or fancy occasion, depending on what you dress the plate up with. I just made them this morning before my husband left for work and used heart-shaped cookie cutters to make heart shaped holes in the middle for Valentine's Day :)

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2013
I loved this recipe. It's a little different than the meatloaf recipe I usually use, so I liked changing things up a little. I followed the recipe exactly as written and it makes a very sweet tasting meatloaf. I wasn't sure about the ginger at first, but you won't even know it's there once the meatloaf is cooked. I read in the reviews that some people thought the brown sugar and ketchup mixture should be placed on top of the loaf, and not under it. I will say that yes, the mixture is pretty runny when the meatloaf first comes out of the oven, but if you remove the loaf and put it on a serving platter and let the sauce sit for a while, it thickens and makes a very nice sauce to pour over the top of the meatloaf slices.

Garlic Lover's Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2013
I made this recipe exactly as written, EXCEPT for three additional spices added: Italian, oregano, and basil. This made a nice, full 13x9 inch pan dinner, and my son and husband loved it. My husband ate two big pieces of chicken and has dished up the leftovers for work tomorrow, but he couldn't stop picking at the leftovers as he was dishing it up. He deemed this as possibly his new favorite meal, so thank you very much for posting this recipe. I will be adding this to our monthly menu for sure. I didn't think any of the flavors were too overpowering, but we are all big cheese and garlic lovers, so I can see where someone who wasn't so keen on the Parmesan and garlic flavors would probably want to cut back.
