Moroccan Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2004
Upon sampling this soup, my morrocan husband stated, "something is in there that doesn't belong in there." When i rattled off the list of spices he said the Garam Marsala didn't belong, although he stated it was good. For an authentic morrocan taste, substitute "Rus Al Hanoot" for the Garam Marsala. GM is a blend of indian spices, while Rus Al Hanoot is a blend of morrocan spices.

Jackie's Special Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2008
I'm not a big fan of meatloaf, but it is my son's favorite dish. I am always looking for one that I can make that I will like better. Thanks Jackie, I found it. This one is going in the file box and the search is over. Ease of preperation is a big plus too.

Moroccan Tagine

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2004
These spices look great, but for the love of Morocco, do NOT serve over rice. If you want to serve over something, use couscous and omit the almonds.

Raisin-Studded Apple Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
The instructions in this recipe need to be modified to claify a bit. It instructs to add broth and herbs then pour over stuffing mixture...aren't you adding the broth and herbs to the stuffing mixture? How could you then pour it over? I realize now what to do but while I was making it it was confusing so I just went for broke and mixed everything together in no particular order. I used a mixed bag of raisins and cherries, I used bulk mild italian chicken sausage...if you can't get bulk you can get the links and cut them open to fry. I had two stuffing boxes on hand, and the stove top was better for this particular recipe as it comes already "crushed" and crushing the pep. farm proved difficult. Very pleased with taste! Thanks for sharing.

Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2004
(UPDATE 2008: Had a new idea for Thanksgiving, to use 3/4 cup canned pumpking in place of the bananas for a holiday treat. WOW...SUPERB!) I stumbled upon this recipe looking for a way (besides banana bread) to use overripe bananas. Instead of adding sliced bananas...I put mine in to blend with the egg/milk mixture. I just may never make banana bread again. What a treat.

Rose Petal Pound Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2003
This was very nice! I made this for Ramadan soohoor (the meal eaten at ramadan just before fasting begins) and was delighted. Be careful not to overbeat...I made this mistake and it resulted in the bread being a bit tough but it was still delicious. I omitted the almond extract because extracts contain alcohol. I used two ounces of ground almonds. ( Just crunched up almond pieces while they were still in the bag) Thanks for this recipe, a true blue keeper!

Peanut Butter Cake II

Reviewed: May 1, 2003
This yeilded a perfect texture cake. However, I thought that I could taste the yellow butter flavor from the cake mix more than I would have liked. Next time I think I would use a white cake mix as a base. The frosting was much too sweet. I ended up adding 2tbsp. cocoa powder to tone down the sweetness, which helped, but next time I would use a different frosting all-together.

Delicious. Be patient with the whipping of eggs...you want stiff peaks to form.

The Most Incredible Pancake Bites Ever

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2003
Ok Jeff, these are realllly goood. The only reason i didn't give 5 stars was because the liquid portion is off. I halved the recipe and I had to add a lot more soy milk than called for to get to a consistency that was workable. Without this modification my batter was like cookie dough. I didn't have the vanilla powdered creamer but suppose it was accomodated for in the soy milk which was vanilla flavored. Thank you Jeff, I will definately make these again, perhaps trying a little cardamom

Chocolate Mug Milkshake

The description is right, but the name is wrong. This is not thick enough to be considered a milkshake in my book; but a tasty, albeit sweet, drink.

World's Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
Very flavorful. Definately is too sweet with the full half cup of sugar! I tried it as written for the first time, and wished I'de followed other's advice to cut back on the sugar. I added more potatoes, which helped...the flavor however, was excellent went paired with the spicy rib sauce we used with our rib dinner. A hit overall.

Pan Fried Green Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2004
I was inspired to try this because my mother makes a similar dish. The difference being the green beans are sauteed in freshly chopped onions and olive oil. The garlic was a nice addition. We prefer the flavor of the fresh onions but will now add garlic as well. Thanks for sharing.

Banana Nut Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2004
I realllly wanted success with this recipe, to bring up its 3 star rating, thinking it must be good and others must be doing something wrong or expecting more of a sweet bread. Contrar mo frair! (boy was i wrong) This was an utter dissapointment and unedible waste of ingredients!
