About this Cook
I have a summer fruit, vege & herb garden, do lots of canning and I also make homemade fruit wine. I'd classify myself as an intermediate cook, as I am not a 'chef' by trade and feel a person is never too old to stop learning new & different things. I am cooking a lot more these days at home since I retired, due to the economy and because we enjoy healthy cooking a lot more than the local restaurants' cooking. I am lazy when it comes to going to the grocer to pick up exact items per recipes, so you will notice adjustments in my reviews due to that. I will use what I have @ home. I raise backyard/urban chickens and integrate their manure into my mulch/compost bin for my garden.
My favorite things to cook
My husband loves my tacos, & guacomole; I make a fantastic spanish omlett & I love to BBQ Brisket & Ribs, Texas style, as we really don't have any good BBQ here that I have found yet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I make homemade Marzipan @ Christmas; my kids love much more than the store bought, even from Germany.
My cooking triumphs
Homemade Borsch (Russian Soup), biscottes, Filet of Sole & Salmon Braised in Cream (French), which impressed my boyfriend that doesn't like fish very much, enough that he asked me to marry him. Not an easy feat for someone hitting 50, ladies.
My cooking tragedies
Canning pickles...I love the German type and have recently found a nice recipe on line. Hoping to get enough cukes this year from my garden to try the recipe out.

Spaghetti Sauce
Great quick sauce to just 'throw together'. I put a chopped bell pepper in with the onions & 1# of lean ground beef. I made this pretty true to recipe, except the green onions (I didn't have any). I have fresh herbs and added a bit more to my taste and used my own home canned tomatoes, along with a small can of tomato paste (some added for thickening). Picture posted. I'd give 4.5-5 stars!

World's Best Scones! From Scotland to the Savoy to the U.S.
OK, but I have tasted a lot better. Fluffiness was nice. I think it was the baking powder taste that turned me off. I like a little sweeter and as some of the other reviews stated, too dry by mid morning for me to consider saving for the next day. Fed the leftovers to my chickens. I was NOT impressed. I used craisins in place of raisins. I was really disappointed overall. I think I'd cut the baking powder in half if I made again, but I don't think I'll be making this one again. Left too much of a truly 'bad taste' in my mouth to try this one again.

Iced Mochas
No ice cube trays on hand? I'm an iced Mocha Lover. Here is my EASY ICED MOCHA recipe in case you want it now & don't have ice cube trays anymore: Simply take some of your leftover COOL coffee (twice-or thrice brewed if you like that Starbucks taste) put into a tall glass, add Hershey syrup and some half & half to taste, adjust to what you need more of, then add your ice. I like a lot of ice in my coffee and strong, so be aware, it will dilute over time. I'd add more cubes of leftover coffee if you like this recipe strong. Add a few drops of vanilla if desired. The leftover coffee frozen in trays in this recipe is a wonderful idea for those hot summer days and a great way not to waste coffee as costly as it is these days. Start the freezing now, Iced Mocha lovers. The taste is great and a lot cheaper than buying an iced mocha from Starbucks. Save your $5.00. Good luck!
