Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2012
I had high hopes for these since I love oats, cocoa and cinnamon, but they fell short of my expectations. I found them to be dry and kind of bland surprisingly. They do also seem to taste a little sodaey.

White Chocolate Pound Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2012
I know there is huge debate on whether or not a person should review a recipe when they have made a number of changes, but I tend to change most baking recipes to cut fat and sugar. In any case I made this cake subbing the butter for vanilla yogurt, the sour cream for sour skim milk (I just added lemon juice to milk), and the eggs for egg whites and it worked out wonderfully!! The texture was a little dense (which I like in a pound cake) but still very moist. For anyone looking to try this in a low-cal version I highly recommend it. Great recipe

Maple Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2012
Just made these this morning and they are a very yummy little cookie! the perfect texture and crispness to the edges. The reason I am not rating them higher is that as other reviewers have said they aren't very mapley, next time I will add some extract as well.

Mom's Ranger Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
I found that these had way too much baking soda, it is almost all I can taste :( I can tell that with the soda reduced though they will be amazing so I will be trying it again but maybe with only 1 tsp of soda

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2012
I made this last night in the form of muffins (I halved the recipe and it fit nicely into 12 muffins) and shared them with my roommates and they were a hit! I also added some chocolate chips (because I was craving chocolate...) p.s. As 12 muffins I reduced the baking time to 20 minutes.

Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2012
These are really yummy, though I will likely bake them for less than 8 minutes if I make them again. I found that the bottoms didn't burn persay but they did caremalize quite a bit and I would have prefered if they hadn't. Less time in the oven will probably solve that though.

WWII Oatmeal Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: May 6, 2012
Very yummy with wonderful deep flavour! I think next time I may try adding some cinnamon and cloves though, since I generally like a spicy oatmeal raisin cookie

Sauerkraut Rye Bread

Reviewed: May 1, 2012
Yummy! I am really enjoying this bread, very nice and moist (quite dense though). I used less sugar and butter than called for and it still turned out really well and rose nicely. I will definitely be making this again.

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2012
I made this and got impatient and poured it into the pan before it had totally reached soft ball stage and it didn't set. After much debate I put it all back in the saucepan the next day and reboiled it and this time didn't cut corners and it actually worked and set correctly the second time around. I made it for my grandparents and boyfriend and they raved it was the best fudge they have ever eaten.

Pumpkin Gingerbread

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2012
Very very good!! I even made some modifications to cut fat and sugar and it still turned out amazing. The changes I made were: completely substituted the oil for unsweetened applesauce, used 2 cups splenda and 1 cup brown sugar is place of the white sugar, and then 1/2 cup eggs whites in place of the eggs. Because of the changes it was a little heavier so I had to bake it for about 10 minutes extra. The flavour and texture was superb though and it didn't taste like low calorie baking at all!

Graham Crackers

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
This morning I went to make a cheesecake for my Mom and realized she didn't have any graham cookies or crumbs, so quick walk to the convenience store, where they also didn't have anything. I decided I would have to make my own. I halved this recipe with only a couple alterations. (I had to add a little bit more milk than called for and I didn't have whole wheat flour so I used all-purpose (1cup) mixed with some quick oats (1/2cup)). They turned out great and made exactly enough crackers to make a 9 inch cheesecake crust.

Mexican Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
I really enjoyed this, it is sort of all one texture which I know is off-putting to some, but if you don't mind a kind of soft uni-textured meal (which I really enjoy) then this is wonderful. I did sautee some broccoli with a little bit of taco seasoning and added it to the layering just to increase the veggies.

I made this using vanilla yogurt instead of plain yogurt and it tasted overwhemingly of pumpkin, I love pumpkin, but this was less like pumpkin pie flavoured more like frozen pumpkin

Mom's Shredded Elk Sandwiches

I made this with venison and I found it very good but not saucy enough for my tastes. It was very very good, but I will continue my hunt for the perfect shredded meat recipe.

Crustless Cranberry Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2012
I made this with the butter subbed for applesauce and splenda instead of sugar and pecans instead of walnuts. The result is wonderful, the texture is, of course, different than it would be if I followed the recipe and used butter instead of applesauce but the flavour if great! Not too sweet and not too tart. A very nice light snack.

Squash Relish

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2011
I made this yesterday and so I haven't had a chance to taste it after it has sat in the can for awhile but the initial taste was wonderful! The perfect ratio of sweet to tangy. The reason I am giving it only four stars though is that is is quite liquidy. I think I will use less vinegar the next time

Chocolate Mint Candies Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2011
These are good (and I have to say the dough is one of the yummiest cookie doughs ever!) but I find with the thin mint on the top of the cookie that it made for a funny texture clash, the chocolate just stuck to the roof of my mouth and was chewy and then the cookies was so nice and fluffy... I think if I try this recipe again and will make it so the thin mint is within the cookie.

Chocolate Macaroons I

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2011
I would have given these four and a half if I could, they are really good, nice and sweet and chewy but mine spread a lot which took away from the chewiness. I will definitely be making them again though.
