Ultimate Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2013
This was a great creamy plain old fashioned macaroni and cheese. The first time I made it I used whipping cream and sour cream in place of all the milk. Wow... creamy, comforting and fattening. I did not use garlic powder because even though I love it, it did not sound good in mac and cheese. I had no ground mustard so I left that out, and the amount of pepper sounded way off base so I only used 1/4-1/2 t until it tasted good to me. I also used crushed corn flakes instead of bread crumbs to the top of the casserole and drizzled the whole thing with another 1/2 cup of melted butter. I baked it about 45-50 minutes, because it was not hot and bubbly in the center at 30 minutes. Definitely use a larger pan if you have one. This went right to the top of my largest oblong glass dish.

Mexican Brownies

Excellent recipe with a bite to the sweet taste. I used cayenne pepper because that's all I had and it was delightful. Makes a huge amount.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2014
This is a very good recipe, but I have worked with chocolate for many years and the amount of chocolate listed here is too much for the amount of shortening. The darker the chocolate, the more shortening or paraffin is needed to make and keep it smooth. The strawberries must be clean, dry, and room temperature before starting.

Perfect Turkey

I have brined my turkey for years. This just confirms how much more tender and juicy it can be. I use the seasonings in extra melted butter for basting every hour!

Easy Sausage Strata

Excellent breakfast/brunch idea. I have made this recipe in every size pan, doubled and tripled it, made ahead by as much as a week, and put cooked portions in the freezer for later. It is never bad.

Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2011
Very great place to start. Mine ended up different but this is where the idea came from. I I only used the chicken and broccoli, and made my own cream sauce with mushrooms in place of the soups. I baked it for just over an hour because my chicken was partially frozen, and then topped it with the cheese and bread crumbs for about 10 omre minutes. I used no additional seasongings. Excellent.

Lazy Bruschetta

The recipe's ingredients are terribly out of proportion. A lot needs to be done to fix it, but it is a place to start.

Peanut Butter Cup Dessert Pizza

The peanut butter layer was so thick I added an 8 ounce block of cream cheese to it to make it spreadable. The result was fabulous.

Old World Poppy Seed Roll

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2012
It seemed to take a lot longer to rise to double in bulk than the one hour. I let mine rise 2 hours, and it was a little flat still. I could blame the yeast. I will try it again, because the dough was good and I used a can of poppy seed filling and it was very easy.

Excellent recipe. I used cayenne pepper and just a pinch of salt. I also thinned it a bit with some sour cream until it was soft enough to dip a chip into without breaking.

Thighs on Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2011
Very greasy and fatty. If the butter in the rice was eliminated, the fat from the chicken thighs would have been enough. Cooking time was right. I sprinkled some dried oregano over top just for some extra flavor and looks.
