Gram taught me to bake at 17,love to make cookies and pies, just starting to work at recipes with yeast (for some reason I've avoided it...probably because of the wait time in rising doughs). Somehow missed learning/enjoying to cook until I met my 2nd husband (a former professional chef). He introduced me to creative and delicious foods with flavors that made me realize that it isn't just men that can fall in love because of their stomach...lol Food can be an Experience that can be filed in our "Hall of Wonders". Taste, Textures,Pairings, and Presentation.
I'm just beginning w/cooking but lucky to have my husband to critique my efforts...although this can also be a source of debate at times...lol Hope to have more input as I get used to this site ("technology challenged" but live and learn!!!)
My favorite things to cook
Pies, cookies, breads anything sweet..."empty nest" so I get to lick the bowl!!! Cooking chicken and beef dishes as well as vegetables in different ways.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making a ton of cookies at Christmas, and love appetizers/finger-food for holidays to watching that special movie. My love of the last 5 years usually is the head cook at the holidays and I play assistant except in relation to desserts where we reverse. I guess the best thing is that we have an enjoyment of food in common beyond the routine of survival. No more "Cheerio Casserole"(what I used to call anything I threw together)I'm sharing the kitchen with my honey!!
My cooking triumphs
When I realize i don't have everything a recipe calls for, I'm then brave enough to substitute, and end up with something delicious and at times totally new...and when my kids don't believe I could have made it because it's so darn good!!!
My cooking tragedies
Burning water (yes it can be done!!)
Having my husband tell me a chicken dish I made tasted like "Old Gym Socks"...My question..? when did he taste gym socks old or otherwise???LOL
OK, I hope that gives you an idea of how far I've come
