About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love making desserts. Cakes, brownies, cookies, pies, tarts, puddings, fudge, chocolates, I've even made panna cotta and blancmange. Cooking meals is fun, but desserts are a passion. I have become the source for desserts at my work now, and anytime I want to test a recipe I leave it on the kitchen counter and see how fast it disappears.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My nana's chicken soup and grandma's chocolate cake are hands down my favorite family traditions.
My cooking triumphs
I think one of my proudest moments was when I made a perfect cheesecake on the first run of a recipe. No cracks, smooth texture, not overcooked, moist crust that stayed together, it just came out better than any other cheesecake I have ever made. I felt like dancing when everyone said it looked like something in a professional bakery.
My cooking tragedies
Making any candy that isn't made of chocolate still seems to be beyond my skill level. I either burn it, cook it too long, or don't cook it enough. I've made peanut butter 'chews' that could qualify as the hardest substance known to man. I'm currently avoiding that area of dessert making in the hope that I will grow into it or something.

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies
Very good and easy, these went fast. I ended up running out of mini reeses and filled the last six with dark chocolate pieces. I think I liked those even better than the reeses ones!

Ida's Lemon Mousse
This recipe really didn't work out at all. First, the jello part took overnight to set enough for me to add the whipped cream, the finished result was soft and didn't hold its shape at all like a proper mousse would, and the taste was tangy to the point of being bitter. I was looking for a light citrus dessert with a bright flavor, and was sorely disappointed. Won't be making this again.

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies
This worked well, a moist and flavorful peanut butter cookie, though they did spread a bit more than anticipated. Next time I'll probably halve the size of the cookie.
