About this Cook
I'm a theatre teacher and actor. I cook a lot more now that I am a stay at home mom. I love to try new recipes and learn new techniques. I'm hoping to start my first vegetable garden soon.
My favorite things to cook
Casseroles, mac and cheese, pies, thai curry, soups
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a long line of desserts. :) Big favs in our family growing up were peanut butter Rice Krispie treats, fudge, and apple, banana, and chocolate pies. I don't make as many desserts as my parents did, but we still enjoy them once in a while.
My cooking triumphs
I recently made my first Thai curry and I was really excited at how well it turned out. It was fun and easy.
My cooking tragedies
I manage to mess up the simple things, like a cake mix with three steps and two ingredients! Worst was a casserole that I put too close to the broiler - the crumbled Ritz crackers on top caught fire and the whole thing fell on the rug in the dining room as I struggled to put it out. There is a big burn spot on the rug, and I think I took a few years off my life!

Angel Chicken Pasta
This is one of our favorites - with a few things we do differently. I use white rice instead of pasta. I also use just plain cream of mushroom and plain cream cheese. It's fantastic. Be sure to drink the rest of the white wine you opened for the recipe at dinner. ;)

Tilapia Scampi
I didn't care for this recipe - it needs "something"...more lemon, maybe? Or some white wine to give it some tang? Some herbs?

Buttery Cooked Carrots
Tasty and easy. I didn't weigh my carrots so I am not sure if I started with a pound. I added 2 T butter and 1/4 cup brown sugar but wound up adding a bit more at the end. I also drained the water first - I think this is better. Otherwise it would have been too soupy. I recommend this recipe, but start slow with the butter and sugar and just add to taste instead of following these measurements. Some people have more of a sweet tooth.
