Asian Avocado

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2015
I liked it. I too, did the mashed version. Didn't bother to put it back in the skin (barbarian that I am). I have a finely-minced ginger garlic blend that I got in a bodega, so I used a tsp of that and a tsp of full-up kikkoman for half an avocado. I can't imagine using that amount for an entire avocado...it would be too weak, so I will definitely double up if I use a whole one. My sesame oil did not survive my move and I haven't replaced it yet. Looking forward to that addition next time.

Texatini

I realize that there is, technically, a difference between the various orange liqueurs, but I tend to use them interchangeably depending on what I have on hand and what I usually have on hand is blue curacao (exactly the same as orange curacao except the color)because I love the effect it gives the beverage. As another person commented, I too was out of S&S mix and used Margarita mix. Still really good, but I think it might benefit from actual S&S mix (or maybe a lime/simple syrup combo). Will just have to force myself to keep on making it until I get it perfected.

Mexicali Beer Margaritas

Reviewed: May 3, 2014
I can't even describe how much the concept of this recipe curls my tastebuds. However, a tip: rather than dirty a measuring cup, just use the container the limeade came in to measure out the tequila.

Potato Latkes I

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2013
I made it just as written and it was very nice. Having had it that way, next time I'll experiment with proportions and add-ins.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2013
Lovely recipe. Changes I made were minor. I upped the garlic (I pretty much do that with every recipe that includes it...family preference), added onion, added small pasta shells. Used baby carrots instead of sliced (so I could pick them out easier (But everyone else likes carrots so I can't omit them))

Best Guacamole

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2013
It sounds like a good base. I will be adding in tomato and garlic. However, I am here mainly to say, no cilantro does not have to be added to make a good guac or salsa or whatever. There is a chemical in cilantro that causes it to taste exactly like soap to some people, so to me it would be exactly like shaving in a bar of Ivory.

Italian Amaretto Margaritas On the Rocks

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
I, too, scaled it down to 1 and it scaled perfectly, altho, I tend to eyeball amounts & probably erred a little on the plus size. (For the record, the division scales down to 1.25 oz each of amaretto & tequila & half an oz of orange liqueur (I used Grand Marnier. Will try it with Triple Sec next time) I'm not sure with an almost 1:1 ratio of s&s to alcohol, anyone cannot taste the alcohol.). I also used granulated sugar instead of confectioners. I like texture/sweetness level better.

Boat Drink

Love the basic taste. Never been keen on Midori, so I will have to force myself to try it with a variety of other alcohols. Poor me
