i'm shue. growing up, we didn't eat junk food, so we spent a lot of time in the kitchen making desserts and baking muffins, cookies, bars, and cakes.
after years of working in the restaurant and bar industry, i developed an appreciation for really good dishes with surprising elements. but i've only recently begun to think of myself more as a cook than as a baker. in the early days, my only forays into savory snacks were baking powder biscuits and fried cheese.
My favorite things to cook
vegetables, especially roasted or stir-fried.
thai, indian, mexican, moroccan dishes...anything that incorporates unusual herbs and spices.
BEANS! they are so versatile. i love to make sauteed white beans with rosemary, garlic, and a sprinkle of chopped kalamata olives. i love to use beans to replace dairy in creamy dips. and i recently used a recipe on this site to make a flourless chocolate ganache with garbanzo beans - fantastic!
My favorite family cooking traditions
sunday morning breakfast: coffee cake or danish puff, eggs, and strong black coffee
pan fried cheddar cheese
