Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2015
I just came back from Belgium where I feasted on delicious, sweet, melt in your mouth waffles. In my opinion this waffle recipe fell flat. I didn't think these were doughy, sweet, or crispy enough. They honestly didn't taste that much different than a typical American waffle and the effort to make them was significant. Real Belgian waffles are much much sweeter than these without any topping whatsoever. They're also supposed to be much more bread like (imagine a doughy center of a cinnamon roll type consistency). These were just a little tiny bit doughier than typical waffles. I think I'll keep searching for the right Belgian waffle recipe.

Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2015
An awesome and easy family dinner! The chicken was moist and delicious! I recommend only 1 TBS of Rosemary and 1 10 oz package of biscuit dough. We had a ton of dough and the rosemary was a little overpowering for our taste. Otherwise it turned out perfectly cooked!

German Pear Pancake

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2014
This was an oily flan- like floppy concoction. I followed the recipe to a tee and it just isn't something I find at all palatable.

Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken

Not great. Way too sweet and not tangy enough for me. The sauce seems all wrong.

I followed this recipe to a T twice and both times it came out flavorful but wet and rubbery.

Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2012
If you're looking for a rich, chocolatey, melt in your mouth type brownies, these are not it. This recipe is just ok, not fabulous. I'm not quite sure why it has such high reviews. I tried this recipe twice before revewing and folowed it exactly as listed. The first time I used melted butter as recommended, the second time I used the oil in the original recipe. Both times I found the brownies to be more sticky and sweet with a sugary, oily aftertaste rather than rich and chocolately, which is how I prefer them. Brownies aren't very hard to make and there aren't many ingredients so I have a hard time giving a 5 star rating for a simple overly sweet recipe when to me it tasted exactly like something I could have gotten out of a box and spent half the time preparing. I think a recipe with more chocolate and less sugar and one which allows for a thicker, richer, more chocolatey outcome is what I was looking for.

Chicken In Basil Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2012
All I can say is that my husband adores this recipe and he's a picky eater. I had my doubts that the chicken would keep its coating since im not a great cook but it never fails to stay crisp and in tact! It always turns out great! We love it!

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2012
I followed this recipe exactly as written but my cake turned out a little crumbly. The taste was delicious though. I think next time I'll need to beat the batter longer in the electric mixer to get the cake to hold together better.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2012
Pretty good and pretty easy. I wouldn't say it tasted like a French baguette since mine was missing that airy, holey effect inside. Instead is was a bit more dense but still light, so nothing I will complain about. My crust turned out great with the egg yolk brush. The smell of the bread when it comes out of the oven is amazing.

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2012
I followed the recipe exactly and I thought the taste was great and so did my husband. The recipe was also pretty easy. My only wish is that there was a little less liquid and a little more kick and less sweet. That's just my taste but it was still really good!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2010
4 stars. The cinnamon and sugar to roll the cookie balls in needs to be tripled in order to have enough to do the entire batch. I thought they were tasty but I'll probably add an extra pinch of cream of tartar next time for more the a signature snickerdoodle flavor.
