Decorator Frosting I

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2002
This is the decorating frosting recipe that I learned when I first started decorating cakes. I like the almond flavoring but you can also use butter flavoring if you prefer the butter flavor. Actually butter can be used rather than the shortning but then you will not have a true white frosting that decorators want. I have also substituted any number of flavorings depending on what I wanted although almond is my personal favorite. You have to remember this is made for DECORATING, more so than the actual flavor.

Sour Cream Sugar Cookies II

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2003
I'm always making fun of people writing reviews and saying this didn't turn out and I did it exactly like the recipe called for except.... So, when I saw this recipe called for lard I was surprised that they still made lard but I went and bought it. I made them exactly like the recipe, no changes. When I baked them all I could smell and taste was lard. If my mother in law gave me this recipe I'd be fighting with her and divorcing her son. I thought maybe the lard taste was just in my mind so I took one to a friend to taste and asked what she though, she took a bite and said, God, it tastes like lard. OK, so if you love the taste of lard and I can't imagine anyone that would you mike like these. Perhaps they'd be better if shortning was used in place of lard because the texture wasn't bad but unfortunately all I tasted was lard.

Great recipe. I don't know too many Italian recipes that don't include Marsala wine so I used it, I know it serves a purpose. As for the citron I don't care for it in cannoli anyway so I left it out and used coconut on the ends or the cannolis just like the Italian bakery near me does and they tasted the same.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2014
I made this pretty much according to the recipe. I did add a can of cream of celery soup also as well as cut up celery and carrots. It was wonderful. I would highly recommend this. I had my doubts about the packaged biscuits but as someone suggested I flattened them out and put them in little pieces for about the last hour. I'll never make home made ones again.

These are simply delicious, the first ones I made I didn't cook long enough (no candy thermometer) but they were still very good. Once I got the candy thermometer they turned out perfect.

Luscious Lima Bean Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2015
Ive made lima bean soup the way my Grandmother who lived through the depression did for years. I thought I would try this and made this recipe exactly the way the recipe called for. So disappointed. Truly all you need is dried lima beans, ham (I buy the precut bits) water & salt & pepper. Nothing else. Stick it on the stove on low & cook for hours keeping watch the water doesn't all get absorbed into the beans, if it does add more water & allow to thicken up. We always eat it with buttered bread. You truly don't need the other ingredients & I won't bother again.

Excellent recipe, I did brown the meatballs before putting them into the sauce though, they were quite good.
