The Best Chocolate Cake You Ever Ate

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2011
I'm 27 weeks pregnant. Baby and I decided I needed some chocolate cake to go with my glass of milk. Found this recipe, loved how it didn't call for much time in the kitchen and that I had all the ingredients, sans pecans-- was already a hit in my books. Was super simple to make, and this type of frosting is one of my faves (total sweet tooth). I took the advice of other reviews and used a skewer to poke holes in the cake before I poured the icing over, WONDERFUL IDEA!! I followed the recipe exactly (except used "sour milk instead of real buttermilk) and do have to agree, with some other reviews, that it is a bit heavy on the cinnamon. Yet, its still a good flavor combo, that warm spicy feeling, great w a cup-o-jo. I did give a 5 star instead of 4 because of this, though. I do think the cinnamon aids in relaxing the richness cakes like these tend to have, I was able to eat the whole piece and down my glass of milk, with ease (and joy). Over all, LOVE this, will most definitely be making this again, but with 1/2 tsp cinn instead-- 4.5 stars :D

Easy Eggless Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2011
BEST CAKE EVER!!! I made this cake because I'm pregnant, in a baking phase and needed a chocolate cake fix! I'm out of eggs and found this recipe. The only alterations I made were the previously recommended extra 3 tbsp of cocoa, I also had no cake flour and used AP; and to my horror I was out of white vinegar. I decided to take the chance and use apple cider vinegar which made no difference (whoo! I was going to eat it anyway)! I also added a capful (about 1/2 tsp) of vanilla to the frosting for extra lil sweetness. After poured the frosting over a still very warm cake, it looked so good and I couldn’t wait any longer. I sliced a piece, and it was like eating the most decadent lava cake from the best restaurant!! I'm super surprised an egg-less cake turned out to be so wonderful; I was excited to try it out! I will most definitely recommend and use this recipe from now on, whether or not I have eggs!!

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2010
I haven’t had blueberry pie since I was a kid, today I was given some blueberries from the local farmers market. After my 3 year-old ate a few handfuls; I decided to make a pie. I found this recipe, it sounded very simple and yummy. I whipped up a home-made pie crust and tried my hand at creating a lattice top (which, for the first time, I think looks ok). I couldn’t wait to tear into the pie; it smelt so good as it was baking. My daughter and I tried it at the same time and we just melted. The filling is sweet but still tart, and with the home-made crust, it’s the perfect combination of home-made love—just like grandma! Thanks ASHESP for posting! Happy Baking!
