Hi, I'm Krissy. First, I'll tell you abt my cooking style. It's really evolved a lot in the past few years. I've become very creative. I often change recipes to fit my & my family's likes. I've even invented & created new dishes! Cooking is a very creative outlet for me, & I come to AllRecipes to get lots of ideas, but as I said, I make the recipes my own! As a cook, I encourage you to never be afraid to do the same! Now, what else would I like to tell you abt me? I'm an entrepreneur, digi-cam photographer, blogger, & someone who loves ALL things Social Media! I also run a group that makes cards & distributes them to cancer patients, & am a Team Captain for a group that fundraises for blood cancer patients (like those w leukemia). There is so much more I could tell you, but I'll end this way -- I love Jesus & the Catholic Church, my husband John, my extended family, & my Maine Coon Cat Michael! Remember, work hard and play hard, you'll get far in life if you do! & never give up! :)
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook healthy dishes. I usually cook w unprocessed ingredients, but put sauces, spices, and flavorings on them to take them to the next level so they won't be bland. I try to include a protein (often fish or another seafood, sometimes a pork chop, and occassionally beef) in each meal, as well as a starch that is good for you (first rice, then pasta, then red potatoes), and finally I serve raw or cooked (either fresh or frozen) veggies. I may also make a fruit dish. An 8 oz glass of milk is also good w a meal. I have been taught by a nutritionist to do this, as it is important to eat and not starve yourself -- you have to eat if you want to lose weight! I like to create many recipes w the above combinations of foods! I sometimes will make the fish/meat w sauces such as lemon and spices, or sometimes mix all the ingredients together and make a casserole. I also like to make chili, and I like crockpot cooking. I love spaghetti and white clam sauce! I also love to make pizza! :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My fave tradition is gathering w my extended family to cook, eat & share time together. We get together on holidays such as Thanksgiving & birthdays. Or I might throw a party for any silly reason. Sometimes we'll get together to eat just bc we feel like it! This tradition of getting together to cook & share food during holidays, as a family, began in my childhood. Celebrating food w family was important to Mom & Dad. Now that my parents are older, the family usually gathers at my husband's & my house. & I'm really glad, I love cooking & I love being w my family! My family says I'm a great cook, & I consider that a great compliment! Sometimes when I cook a family meal, family members bring a dish, or a food item, to add. Some food items we consider staples are "our" family gatherings are: black olives, mandarin orangines, navel oranges, clementines, nuts in their shell w nut crackers (especially brazil nuts!), any kind of chocolate (but chocolate w mint is best!), gourmet coffee
My cooking triumphs
cod in lemon & butter & hot ssauce, all my chilis, white bean chili made with apples & apple sauce (no meat and no tomatoes), cranberry sauce (w orange juice and cloves), homemade special deserts, homemade fruit dishes, homemade drinks (non-alcoholic), homemade stuffing
My cooking tragedies
"monkey bread" mine was MORE than a tragedy! -- 1st to explain "monkey bread" --it's a lump of bread (sweet), from which u pull balls of dough. It's full of cinnamon & sugar & butter. Monkey bread tastes a lot like cinnamon rolls! VERY delicious! To make monkey bread, u place many dough balls (w ingredients added) next to each other & bake this concotion, ending up w 1 big piece of soft, sweet, chewy, "monkey bread". Is it called "monkey bread" bc a monkey will sit & pull the cooked, delicious dough balls off & devour them? I have no idea. But I do know a human will. Bc many humans have been known to do so, including me! Anyway, getting back to my experience w making "monkey bread" -- I was truly mortified & completely baffled w my tragedy. Why couldn't I pull mine apart? Why was it hard as a brick & why did it look like 1? Why was it 1 giant charred brick, thickly slathered with butter? Why could neither monkey nor human pull it apart? After all, I HAD followed the directions exactly!
