great recipe. i have made this many times and its an easy, delicious on the go breakfast.healthier and still DELICOUS version. my changes: instead of adding the entire 2 cups flour, i use 2 cups flour & one cup oatmeal. i replace the 2/3 cup shortening with applesauce, and i didnt have buttermilk, so i used regular milk. to save time, i peel the apples, than chop them up on the cutting board with a cleaver - dont waste time being dainty and trying to them cut on small plate.
