Italian Chicken Bow Tie Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
I had some leftover rottiserie chicken and farfalle pasta and found this recipe. I added salt and pepper to taste and added parmessan pepper on top. It was good, simple, and extremely fast.

Tom Yum Koong Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
Used lime zest instead of kaffir lime leaves, frozen ginger instead of galangal, palm sugar instead of regular white sugar, and added bamboo shoots (sliced) and the bulb of a lemongrass. It tasted just like the Tom Yum from my old fave Thai restaurant, Tamada, that no longer exists!!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
Mmmm... So yummy!! This soup reminds me of my fave Zuppa Toscana. I added cooked bacon strips and sliced mushrooms. Kept the skin of the potato on, cut in half lengthwise, then sliced into about 1/4 in. width. Couldn't stop myself from seconds and thirds :]

Guacamole

I like to mix my guacamole with smashed fresh Thai or Hmong chili peppers. It's absolutely amazing that way.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
My first time making lasagna, and it was pretty darn good. My boyfriend couldn't stop raving about it. Didn't need the sausage and tomato sauce and I found that I didn't have to cook the sauce as long as the recipe calls for - cooked for about 15 min. Used all dry seasonings and didn't have fennel so I didn't use any.

Popovers

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
God... These were out of this world. My boyfriend couldn't get enough of these. Especially spread with the Cinnamon Honey Butter (also found on this site). I added a little bit of sugar and cinnamon mix to the popovers to add a touch of sweetness. Didn't have custard cups so I used a cupcake tin and had no problems with it.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
I used iceberg because I already had it available. It was do-able, not the best lettuce to use though. I thought the amount of soy sauce and hoisin sauce combo was too sweet. Didn't use rice wine vinegar, water chestnuts. Added sliced red pepper. Used grated fresh ginger instead of pickled ginger and fresh chopped Thai chili peppers instead of chili pepper sauce.

Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
This soup is definitely irresistable. I tried it for the first time a couple of years ago at Olive Garden and was hooked. I prefer to use spicy Italian sausage, a lot of kale, and alot of chili flakes. This recipe also doesn't specify but I love to keep the skin on the potato because it holds the potato slices better. I also use a water and chicken bouillon mix if I don't have chicken broth available. Haven't tried it with spinach but I'm sure it's also good, just not amazing like kale is.

Cinnamon Honey Butter

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
Wow! This is sooo good.. Watch out or you're going to find yourself spreading it on anything you can! I used it on the Popovers (also found on this site) and the combo was perfect together.

Crusty French Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2010
It's my first time baking with yeast. I ended up using 2 1/2 cups of flour only and used olive oil instead of vegetable. I don't know if I made a mistake or something but while I was kneading my dough, it wouldn't blend into itself to form a nice round dough. Instead, my dough just kept stretching and there were tons of crease marks and folds, so I added more water but it didn't make too much of a difference. I decided to make a braid with my dough because it wouldn't form a circle. I added salt and sprinkled cheese on top after coating with the egg mix. I also don't know if this is a normal occurance with baking with yeast, but when I opened the oven, a ton of smoke came rushing out. The result was a really good crustiness on the outside, but the inside of the dough was only ok because it seemed undercooked, I put it back in the oven to cook an additional 10 min but the only thing it did was made my bread more crusty.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
This dish is good steaming hot. It's not the best Alfredo sauce out there, but it didn't claim to be either. I loved how quick and easy it was. I had all the ingredients around the house already but didn't have enough fresh grated Parmesan cheese as I would've liked. I used fresh garlic and fresh chopped green onion and cilantro. I also added pre-cooked shrimp to mine. It tastes great as leftover too! As soon as it was gone my boyfriend requested for me to make it again for our next meal!

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
I followed this recipe exactly but it didn't have the taste I was expecting. I was hoping for a donut-y kind of muffin but mine just tasted like muffins. My boyfriend loved them though. I used a regular sized muffin tin because that was all I had. I made 3 separate coating options of the cinnamon sugar, white frosting (found on this site) and chocolate frosting. I also had some plain, but i liked the cinnamon sugar one more.

Cream Cheese Tart Shells

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
These tastes really good- especially with the cheese filling also found on this site. Don't worry if the dough mix seems kind of loose even after refrigeration, once pressed firmly onto the muffin tin cups, it should bake and hold up pretty well. I love that it's only 3 ingredients and there is no grease needed to coat the tins!

Brigadeiro

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2010
Mmmmm. These were yummy. It just mostly taste like condensed milk, but I like condensed milk so I have no problems with it. I made enough for 8 balls, 2 were just chocolate - no coating, 2 with chocolate sprinkles, 2 with powdered sugar, and 2 with crushed peanuts. Both my boyfriend and I liked the peanuts the best. We both agreed that even though it looks pretty, the powdered sugar and chocolate sprinkles basically taste like the uncoated one.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
Mmm. I've never had a banana muffin before, but this was sooo good. I made changes that many people have suggested such as: in the batter, I added 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, used 4 medium sized bananas, used 1/2c white sugar and 1/4c brown sugar. I meant to use canola oil instead of butter in the batter also, but I forgot and had already put in the melted butter. For the topping, increase to 1/4 tsp cinnamon. I had enough batter to make 12 regular sized muffins AND enough to make about 5 extra but I didn't have another muffin tin so I spread the batter on one side a loaf bread pan. I added chopped pecans to the loaf pan one. I also put the toppings on the last 5 minutes of cooking time. After I cooled both for about 10 minutes, I did a taste test. Both were very moist and good, but I preferred the one with the chopped pecans. The muffin ones were missing that extra flavorful crunch you get from the nuts. All in all, this recipe is a keeper! :D

World's Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
I didn't like this at all. I've never had such an overly sweet, overly vinegary potato salad before. I was going to make the potato and bacon salad from this website and figured I should make extra to try this recipe also. I cut this recipe in half for 3 servings and the only thing I changed was replaced the evaporated milk with regular milk because I didn't have any. I'm glad I decided not to mix the dressing into the salad mix until ready to eat, because I would've wasted ALOT of ingredients. Instead, I only had to replace the dressing! I will not be making this again.

Potato and Bacon Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
This is a great and simple potato salad. I cooked my bacon in the oven for about 10 minutes, until it was very crispy. Cut the recipe in half to 4 servings. Add about 1 tbsp of white onion and 1 tbsp cayenne pepper. Didn't have Dijon mustard so I used regular mustard instead. Didn't have parsley so used dried dill weed. Topped off with chopped green onion. I didn't mash the eggs in the beginning, instead I put all the ingredients in the bowl, then tossed them all together. I had also made World's Best Potato Salad on this site, and this one tops it by far. This recipe is a keeper that I will be using as a base for my potato salads from now on.

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
I accidently left the cabbage in the hot water too long so it kept tearing but was easy to overlap and hide. Make extra sauce because it tend to dry out and was not sauce-y enough. Popped in the oven to cook for about 15 min and it was delicious!

Easy Pavlova

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
Had trouble with mine breaking and falling apart. I've never had it before so had nothing to compare to. Also baked for an additional 30 minutes because it didn't seem to cook through, it was incredibly wet. By itself, it was too sweet, I literally felt like I was eating sugar- but topped with home-made whipped cream and strawberries, it was spectacular.
