Churros

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2015
Made as stated. It was my first try making churros. Turned out really nice, bit chewier than planned. I did see some recipes contain egg so i am determined to try to see if that turns out fluffier as the ones i tasted did. But as is these are lovely. They cook better if you use a medium size nozzle to pipe. Large nozzles give you fatter ones but sometimes dont cook through if your oil is too hot. Served with white chocolate sauce. Was divine!

Orange Date Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2014
This turned out very good using the adjustments other people made. No need for sour cream, yogurt works perfectly without the extra fat. I blitzed the orange, orange juice, dates and egg in processor. Sifted dry ingredients and then added the wet processed ingredients followed by the yogurt. I also added pecans (half a cup) and a tsp of mixed spice which i think made a nice addition. I zested my orange first and then removed the excess white pith all around before processing. But that's just me because I didnt see the need for the extra non-nutritious bulk the pith would add. Would definitely make again!

Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2013
This was amazing. They looked great and tasted even better. I set the cut rolls in an oven tray lined with foil, sprayed with cooking spray. I had no problems with butter/sugar mix oozing out. I also had no problems removing the rolls from the foil after baking. The one thing I did differently was to use butter instead of margarine. That took it up a notch in flavour. I used raisins and it was just heavenly. Thanks for a great recipe!

Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
very very yummm! I couldn't wait till these had cooled, they smelled divine in the oven, and tasted even better. Followed the recipe exactly, no changes needed. Perfect as is....and highly addictive. I didn't drop spoonsful onto the baking sheet but rather made a rough lump in my hand and flattened slightly for each cookie. Took them out the oven at about 15mins, centre slightly chewy and just right!

Favorite Barbecue Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2011
This was a really nice bbq sauce/ sweet-sour sauce. Shakespeare said "a rose by any name would smell as sweet"! Doesn't matter what you call it, it tastes good, and a definite keeper. Some slight changes i made: I used soy sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce (because I didn't have any of the latter) and regular white spirit vinegar and a dash of brown vinegar, because that's what I had. I also added a Tbsp of bbq sauce in a bottle, it was the last dollop left so I didn't want it to waste, but it made a good difference. All else stayed the same. I marinated chicken breasts for half an hour, pan fried them and simmered with the sauce. It was lovely and saucy. Good recipe!

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2011
Okay, i know this has potential to be better, everything worked fine, popped in the freezer for 40min or so then shaped and dipped in sugar. But when i baked they flattened out and merged!! So essentially i had a massive brownie made of lil brownies. I am sure this is some fault of mine...lol! And the taste: well the batter was divine but the baked product wasn't as flavourful as I hoped, will try again based on reviews :)

Grandma's Noodles II

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2010
I have to give this 5 stars...it took some getting used to, my first time making pasta. I made a creamy/meditarranean/chicken mixture and fold the cooked pasta in. Topped with cheese and into a warm oven (just so the cheese melts) and sprinkled the top with dried parsely. DH was VERY impressed. I didn't mention that i made the pasta from scratch, but i got stopped during the meal and asked, "where did u buy this pasta? It's amazing."....Enough said :)

Shahi Paneer

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2010
Very good. I have to say though, I had a vague idea of what went into pneer and when my unopened litre of milk started to curdle i just put it straight into a clean cloth and ended up with something a bit like cream cheese (I left out lemon or vinegar!), very creamy and not sour at all. Then i followed this recipe after searching for something to make with my paneer look-alike and ended up with a very tasty curry :) thank you.

Pillow-Soft Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
I halved this recipe and after mixing together the wet ingredients, decided it was plenty and could do without the egg, so i left that out, but OMW, the dough was soft n lovely, then i rolled the balls and left to rise again and it worked beautifully. If you are short on time, skipping the extra risings still gives you lovely rolls! Amazing warm with butter, pop in the micro the next day for 10secs :)

Chunky Cheesecake Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
After tasting these an hour out of the oven (while they were a bit warm) i decided i didn't like them much. Wasn't chocolatey enough for me, and it was in between a cake and brownie. Husband said they were OK, and brother-in-law said they were very nice...matter of taste i think. However, after storing in the fridge overnight and having one for breakfast i have definately changed my mind. The cheese layer made the brownie taste amazing and it was much better cold, more dessert-like :) will make again, I did use milk chocolate melted. Will add a tbsp of cocoa next time.

Fudgy Buttons

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
5* for quick and easy, 4.5* for taste but that's just preference. I read a review that said perfect if you like choc and p/butter....true, but i'm not sure i like them mixed up to the extent that i can't distinguish either!lol. Then again, it is still really yum, and because it's so easy to put together and quick I would def make again when craving something sweet.. Drop with TEASPOONSFUL, and make little balls so that its not sooo rich.

Sweet Potato Souffle III

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2010
I'm going to give this 4, even after cutting the sugar it turned out very dessert-like! served alongside fried chicken, the combo was very wrong. Perhaps its MY mistake, and should be served as dessert?? I did assume it was a savoury souffle even after looking at the sugar/egg/vanilla combo. It turned out very good, if it were to be served as a dessert. The nut/flour topping also add to the dessert feel of this recipe.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2010
I have 2 ways of making this exact recipe that I have experimented with over time to "improve" the taste and flavours. 1) instead of cheese sauce, use cream of chicken/mushroom soup mixed with a can of creamstyle corn and pour over potatoes, then top with cheese (this way you use less cheese but still get the flavour and gooey-ness!) or 2) mix 1 cup heavy cream, sauteed mushroom, creamstyle corn, salt, pepper and a pinch of chilli and pour over potatoes...delicious! If you have less time on hand, slice and pre-cook potatoes in microwave (6 min for 4 potatoes) then arrange in casserole and top with sauce. This way it only needs about 20-30min in the oven to brown.

Apple Squares

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
I was verrry unsure about this after i mixed it all together, it was lumpy and hard to spread, maybe my fault. I thinned it a little with 1 tbsp sunflower oil, but next time will increase the quantity of butter a little to ease the spreading. BUT it baked beautifully, the batter rose up between the apple pieces and baked nicely. I did reduce the sugar and used only brown, to 3/4 cup and it was perfect. I made it last nite and there's just 2 pieces left between hubby and me. He thought it was divine! Thanks for a great recipe.

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
I'm giving this 5 stars because the chocolate cupcake part was divine, as was the cream cheese mixture. But because other reviews suggested the cream cheese had too much left over, I decided to halve that bit. However, mixed with the egg, it turned out a little too runny and baked on top of the cupcake instead of sinking in! The end result was still divine, but if i stick to my version again (half the cream cheese filling was the perfect amount) I will put into the muffin pan a little batter, then some cream cheese, then more bater so the cream cheese ends up in the middle! Awesome recipe as is. Will make again!

Jo-Ann's Power Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2010
This turned out great! Awesome meal substitute if you missed breakfast! I think the recipe could do with a pich of salt, though I made it as is except without cereal and used almonds and mixed health seeds (sunflower, pumkin seed, linsee, sesame seed) and mixed dried fruit and walnuts. You can actually use anything as long as the base recipe remains the same, because this works perfectly. Thanks for a great recipe :)

Best Lemonade Ever

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
This is a great recipe. I read a review that said it was labour intensive. A few suggestions : 1) boil the water and dissolve the sugar to make that step easier and 2) pop the lemons into the microwave for 20 seconds before squeezing, it will squeeze out more juice in half the time!

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2010
This gets a 5 star from me for versatility. I get two large pizza bases out of this. If you follow the recipe as is, it gives you a quick crust thats chewy and tastes great, if you have the time to let the dough rise for a bit (45min-1 hour) it gives you a soft delicious crust. I made the dough and divided into 2 portions, rolled both out onto pizza pans and left the one in a warm oven while I topped the other. The one that i topped got baked immediately and gave me the tasty crust. The one that stood in the oven I topped 45min later, then froze. A few days later i thawed and baked it and it turned out even better than the first. So yay for a great crust, whether you are stuck for time or not!

Chloe's Quick Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
As a muslim family we are observing the fasting month currently and I am always looking for light desserts for the evening. This turned out delicious! I used an orange/mango juice and served with fruit cocktail yoghurt that had it's own fruit chunks. It was divine, thanks for an easy, healthy dessert option :)
