For people on a low carbohydrate diet, going non-grain is an excellent way to simplify and weed out the worst carb offenders. About Me
I am an electro-mechanical designer who works for the Los Alamos National Laboratory, in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Cooking, writing, and photography are my passions, all perfectly suited to my latest love: travel.
My favorite things to cook
Vegetable dishes with fresh organic vegies from the Farmer's Market or the local Co-op. I am not a vegetarian, but most of my meals are. I have learned a lot about Tofu and breads made without grains thanks to a diet I was on to lower my cholesterol.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a 2 century old recipe for butterhorn rolls that is simply to die for. My mother is an excellent cook, who is self taught. I remember when she went through every single recipe in some cookbook when I was in high school. We never had the same thing twice in over a year. Some were wonderful, many were awful. But she learned, and I've not had a mediocre meal at her house in 30 years.
My cooking triumphs
Bread in a bread machine made entirely from non-grain flours. It was a bit too moist but it was tasty and made some great sandwiches.
