About this Cook
I am a stay-home mom of three with #4 in the oven. I live a very active lifestyle with my family. We go to the gym together 4-5 days/week, we bike, hike, swim. I do triathlons and am about to upgrade to Olympic distance when my baby pops. Living in Colorado we have so many options for outdoor activities and we take advantage of many of them, but I would love to do more. I have many passions including cooking; like playing the piano, reading & painting. If it sounds interesting I will try it, if it's an adventure I am the first to sign up!
My favorite things to cook
I am in love with so many types of cuisines and am really just learning to explore them more indepth. I would say my favorite thing to cook is "pantry improv." Just taking what I have and turning it into something spectacular. My husband always says we have nothing in the fridge or will try to throw away that last bit of roasted potatoes...are you kidding, I'm making gnocchi with that!
My favorite family cooking traditions
When my mom was 15 her mother died, and didn't have the opportunity to teach my mom to cook. When she married my dad, her MIL taught her some of the basics. When us kids came into the picture, she didn't want us to be clueless so she incorporated us into the kitchen. I was addicted from the start. I learned how to boil potatoes, follow a recipe and many of the other basics of cooking. It was a great foundation. When I married my husband broke it to me gently how bland my cooking was. It didn't feel so gentle when he sauced every meal in Red Hot. So I started playing with spices, cooking beyond a recipe, tasting and changing a dish, making it my own. Soon I had a few dishes he would ask for repeatedly. Now nearly 9 years later, I am a cooking maniac and full-flavor is the norm. Of course I have those "experimental" recipes that flop, but I am learning, tasting, exploring new methods and loving every minute of it!

Cranberry Puffs
Please do NOT try to bake these, you will be utterly disappointed! I did that and the wonton wrapper turned out chewy and just unedible. I guess I did save calories because I just threw them all away. I loved the filling, would even serve it as a dip or relish. Was fairly easy to assemble once you get into a rhythm. I will possibly attempt again & will fry them next time.
