Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2010
This recipe is awesome. I make this often. I don't use the salt and use low sodium chicken broth. There is enough sodium in the broth to flavor the beans.

Thousand Island Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2010
No more store bought Thousand Island Dressing for me! Dill relish and a dash of Worcestershire as others suggested. It's another one of those, "why didn't I think of that" recipes. Thank you Darlis.

Alabama Fire Crackers

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2010
Hmm, I thought. But I gave these a try and wow am I glad. The only thing I changed was canola for vegetable. I have to admit that I cheated and ate a couple before letting them sit over night and thought they were too salty. However, after overnight they were not.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Made this for new years eve for this large family. Wasn't sure the kids would like it so we ordered pizza for the kids. Well...lots of leftover pizza and no Chicken Taco Soup left.

Re-fried Beans Without the Re-fry

Gave away all my canned refried beans! Made 5 times allready and still can't get enough. Did reduce the salt and used chicken broth. 10 stars.

Pork Chops with Dill Pickle Marinade

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2011
Wasn't quite sure what to expect but I thought I might give it a whirl and am I glad I did. I used claussen's Kosher dill brine for the marinade. I checked the reviews and some said the chops tasted like a dill pickle. Well I suppose so with a hamburger dill brine. I found the claussen's to be milder and flavorful without over powering the pork chops. I grilled my chops and they came out juicy and tender. Will definitely make this again.

Homemade Laundry Soap

Most people have a favorite brand product that they don't dare make substitutions for. My new brand product is "Baking Nana." My DW thought I went nuts when she saw me making this. With a little encouragement she gave it a try. Her response was...why can't I give it TEN STARS?

Christmas Cut-Outs

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2011
Just made the Christmas Cut-Outs with the Grandchildren using French vanilla, pumpkin and gingerbread marshmallows in their respective batches. The vanilla extract is not necessary re:French vanilla marshmallows. The pumpkin and gingerbread marshmallows have a flavor of their own. I used an 18"x13" jelly roll pan and used a 1 cup metal measuring cup sprayed with cooking spray on the bottom to spread the mixture. Sprayed Christmas cookie cut-outs with cooking spray and cut out making sure that the cutter completely cuts through to the bottom of the pan. To my delight the cut-outs came out with the cutter which made the transfer to wax paper easy by carefully pushing out the treat. Definitely a 5 star for the fun with the kids and a tasty recipe.

Firecrackers

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2011
With these delectable little bites you’ll light the fuse of sweetness on first bite causing an explosion of spiciness in the end. These have been added to my recipe box TNT folder. Caroline, you were definitely thinking outside the bag with these. Since my store only sells 9.75 ounce bags of Flaming Hot Cheetos that’s what I used. Rather than trying to figure out the ratio of Cheetos to Vanilla Almond Bark Coating with the 9.75oz bag, I used the entire 20oz package of vanilla coating. This mixture spread perfectly in a 13x9 jelly roll pan, lined with parchment paper, to be cooled before cutting. AllRecipes needs to “kitchen approve” these so they can be shared with the masses. As my Grandchildren would say, “They are the bomb”.

Meatballs & Gravy

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2012
When I saw this recipe I knew it would be a hit with grand kids. I have made this recipe as is and give it 5 stars. I have also made it with ground turkey, turkey gravy mix and the Chicken & Garlic Rice A Roni. Such a hit here with us and often requested by the grand-kids. If I were to change anything it would be to add packets of gravy for a thicker gravy. Thanks redamber!

Ham Cake-ettes

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
When I first laid eyes on this recipe I knew I was going to make it. Definitely a keeper and I won’t wait for leftovers to make these again. I’ll go buy a small ham steak just to make these again. DW, who follows her Weight Watchers to a tee, threw caution to the wind and ate three of these. Now my only problem is which folder I will file it under in my recipe box. These Cake-ettes could be a main, a side or made smaller for appetizers and can be served at breakfast, lunch or dinner. If anyone is skeptical about the dill weed, fear not, it adds a depth of flavor without calling attention to itself. Thanks Avon.
