Mickey and Minnie...

...showed up to the Halloween party along with a cast of other characters.

Fall is beginning with the change of colors and cooler temperatures. Well, at least here in the high desert of Southern California the weather does get a little cooler. The tumble weeds are turning brown, preparing to break loose and go rolling along their way. So it's time to decorate for fall and throw a little Halloween party for the grand kids and their friends.

Normally on Halloween we go to the grand kids house after they get home from school, take photos of them in their costumes, grab a quick bite of fast food pizza and then it's off to canvass the neighborhood for treats. So, I thought why not do something earlier in the month for them to enjoy.

I recruited my granddaughter to help with the cooking and my grandson to help Nana with the decorations. The plans were set in motion and this is what we came up with while we were having fun cooking and decorating.

We started out by making Caramel Corn Treat bowls, which turned out easy to make and fun to add different candies and nuts to the caramel corn. Knowing it was going to be a long day before the party in the evening the grand kids and I decided to make lunch. Who doesn't like pizza? And pizza it is. So to keep in the spirit of things we made Creepy Mini Pizzas.

After lunch, while the grandson and Nana continued with the decorations, it was time to start deciding what to make for a side to go along with a big pot of chili. We began scouring Allrecipes.com for some ideas and came up with Chipotle Macaroni and Cheese as a side to go along with the chili.

For the desserts we needed something easy and we agreed on Individual Pumpkin Pies along with Individual Vanilla Cheesecake.

Fun and good eats were had by all...

...along with some creepy creatures lurking in the dark.

ha ha, love it bd. Pics of the grands are always priceless. I filled my bags with leaves, filled treat bags with treats, set aside the pumpkin to be carved and am slowly getting ready for the spooky day.

I am glad the spooky eyes worked out so well. Great picture! I love kiddos and their costumes. You are making memories with those kids that will last a life time.

Thank you Baking Nana. The spooky eyes did work out well but I won't use the glow bracelets again. They're fine for bracelets but when you fold them to put them into the TP rolls some leaked. Next time regular glow sticks. Thanks again for the idea.

Sigh.....I wish my grandkids lived closer so I could do things like this with them. It looks like you all had a wonderful time.

BigShotsMom - I used to live in Huntington Beach, Calif. Yes, right by the beach. When our daughter and SIL moved here with the GK's to the desert we decided to move here too. So sorry that your grands don't live closer.

Thank you AllieGeekPi - The pizzas were good. The grands had a blast. Wish the other grand kids would have gotten in the photos but they are camera shy. Age thing I guess.

bd.weld-I love all the treats and building memories with the grand kids. The photos are beautiful! I especially like the collage of the kids. Now, about that individual pumpkin pie-I will take some please!

Thank you Lela - Those Individual Pumpkin Pies were good. The only thing I would do different is crush the vanilla wafer. I did it in the Individual Vanilla Cheesecakes and they turned out perfect.

Great blog, great photos, and looks like a great time was had by all! I do love those beer eyeglasses. We have an annual Oktoberfest party each year, and they would be perfect for it.
