About this Cook
I am a mother of three girls and a wife of 11 years. I love to cook, when I'm in the mood, and I love to make things for my church events, Bible studies, and parties. I was born to be a hospitable servant to others and cooking food for people brings me so much joy. One day I would like to use this God-given gift to feed the hungry and make good food to poverty-stricken families in foreign countries. I also love the feeling I get when I make something and it's a complete success! I am really serious about healthy eating and getting a balanced diet. I am studying to become a personal trainer and pilates instructor and love to workout. I look for every opportunity to move around and be fit, I teach my children these same values due to high rates of obesity. I have a close relationship with God, no denomination, I just believe and accept Christ and His death and resurrection for our sins and everlasting life. Everything I do, I do for God and my girls' future.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking pretty much anything, cakes are my fave; decorating them is such a fun art! I love crock pot foods, so full of flavor, and it does most of the cooking for you; great for really busy days. I love making Italian food, but I'm married to a Mexican so when I get to do that is limited. Funny thing is, a lot of Mexican foods, I don't like to cook because they are so Americanized. I want to find authentic Mexican recipes to please my picky, hard-to-please husband. Not an easy task being someone who grew up as a "white girl" with a mom that can't cook at all who was married to a Mexican that didn't want to teach me anything of his culture! I also love putting together things with fruit, love lots of fruit! I'm very open minded too and always looking to cook something new and exciting!
My favorite family cooking traditions
One thing I always did with my grandma was can vegetables from her garden and make homemade jelly. Don't really have any family cooking traditions I know of other than Thanksgiving is not Thanksgiving without a good homemade southern pecan pie made with fresh pecans from grandma's pecan trees.
My cooking triumphs
I have a lot! Best ones though are the birthday cakes I have made for my girls' birthdays the past 5 years. On July 4, 2010 I made my daughter a soccer ball birthday cake with grass and all, so proud of that one! My first cake decorating triumph was in 2006, it was a Little Mermaid birthday cake for my daughter's 6th birthday. My first turkey triumph was a turkey I made in a brine for Thanksgiving in 2009, did it again last year and it was even better, so juicy and full of flavor.
My cooking tragedies
I've had plenty of these but blocked them out because they were so bad! Honestly, I'm tired right now and can't remember any off the top of my head.

Turkey Pot Pie I
This was so good! I doubled up the recipe and put it in a 13x9in baking dish because one little pie is not enough for my big family. I also had to double up the pie pastry recipe to make up for the bigger container. I used leftover shredded turkey from Thanksgiving. I didn't have enough parsely and I was out of celery, think it would've been better if I had the right amount of ingredients. I also used chicken broth instead of bouillon because I didn't have it and it's expensive and it has a bunch of MSG in it. I think it would be better with some peas added, it's just not pot pie without the peas. I did what the other reviews suggested and I let it cool before pouring in my crust. Because I put it in a bigger container, I had to bake it about 10 minutes longer. This is a keeper though.

Pecan Pie Bars I
These were gooey yummy. Maybe almost too sweet, but so good. They were a much easier replacement for pecan pie. We couldn't stop eating them, but gained a few pounds so next time I make these I'm going to play with it a little and exchange agave nectar for the corn syrup. Definitely making them again though.

Bloody Broken Glass Cupcakes
I'm definitely going to make these again. After reading some of the reviews, I filled mine with cherry preserves to make a more flavorful and bloody effect when you bite into it. the only thing that got me was making the glass, big didn't realize it would take so long to boil it to 300. It turned out perfect after an hour or so of standing over the stove. Next time I'm going to add some almond extract to the glass mixture to give it more flavor. The kids loved it, but me personally would prefer candy with more flavor than just sugar.
