About this Cook
Perfectionist, wife, traditionalist.
My favorite things to cook
Cookies! Breads! Cakes! Love using tried and true recipes and ingredients (bought an original 1952 Better Homes and Gardens red and white checked cookbook on ebay and use it faithfully!) Mom was right! The best food is simple!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies! Kifli's, spritz, pfefferneuse! Sausage and kraut! Christmas kuchen and bread pudding with rum and raisins.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering grilling chicken without burning it beyond recognition....
My cooking tragedies
Cremating $75 worth of baby back ribs on our brand new "fancy schmancy" grill last summer...I want my Weber back!

Pfeffernusse Cookies
Absolutely delicious! I added 1/2 cup butter instead of 1/4 cup margarine, followed all the rest exactly as written in recipe. Just like my Aunt's in Germany! If you like ginger snaps...you will LOVE this cookie...think ginger snaps on steroids....FANTASTIC!

Spiced Applesauce Bread
Excellent! I used up some apple butter I canned last fall and omitted the nuts. Would make a great holiday treat as well as an anytime snack. Not too sweet (although you can always adjust to your taste with both sugar and spice quantity). I recommend this highly! One note - I lowered the temp to 300 after 50 minutes as it was still raw in the center - my total bake time was 80 minutes, still turned out great!
