Mashed Potatoes and Buttermilk

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2013
Tip 1: Do not skimp on the bacon! I quadrupled the recipe but only tripled the bacon and I was disappointed. Tip2: If you don't have buttermilk and think you can use regular milk or whipping cream, think again. They taste a little more bland this way. If you don't have buttermilk, put a tablespoon of white vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let sit for 5 minutes and you've got buttermilk. Tip 3: Other reviewers are right, there's way too much buttermilk if you follow the recipe. Add until you achieve desired thickness. Tip 4: You can use all the bacon grease. I did, and it's great! Overall, this recipe is the best simplest recipe for mashed potatoes I've come across and it's good!

Cheese Sauce for Broccoli and Cauliflower

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2013
I used bacon grease instead of butter, chunks of cheese because I'm too lazy to shred it. Poured it over baked potatoes that had bacon, carots, and brocoli mixed inside crispy skins.

Valentino's Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2013
Of the various crusts I've made, this one is the best. One tip would be to bake longer. I had to bake this for 30minutes and the center was still not cooked. Next time I will try baking the crust for 5 minutes BEFORE putting toppings on. Then, I will still bake for 30 minutes.

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2013
Even my husband liked it and he hates quinoa. (He would've given it 3 stars.) My daughter wanted seconds and my son started eating it with his hands so he could get more in his mouth. I halved the entire recipe to make 5 servings. I doubled the quinoa and used double chicken broth and I used one can black beans and one can corn. Next time I will triple the the quinoa or add less beans and corn because I personally like a lot of quinoa. The other reviewers are right, there's more than enough black beans. I left out the cayenne pepper but added more black pepper.

Haitian French Toast

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2013
I make this all the time. It's perfect when I have bread that's going bad or is stale. In fact, there was a spot of mold on a loaf of sourdough that I had this morning, I picked it off and soaked the hard bread for a few minutes and it was fantastic. Sometimes I add more sugar or use mango juice. I've made this about 20 times so far. Each time I can vary it or stick to the exact recipe.

Easiest, Amazing Guacamole

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2013
Great and simple. We hate store bought guac and usually make it fresh but with a packet. We will be using this often.

Grandmother's Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2013
VERY BUTTERY. I've had real pound cakes that are sweeter. But this recipe was good. Make a sweet whip to go with it. Just keep in mind, if you don't like butter, don't bake this.

Pasta/Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2013
Great sauce! I wonder if I can make pizza lasagna? The crust I used wasn't that great but the sauce did a great job of helping me ignore that. Family came back for more and my 2 year old son licked the sauce off the crust.

Linda's Fake and Bake Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2013
I took a tip from another reviewer and used honey mustard as dipping sauce (I didn't feel like making the Honey Mustard II Dressing on the site.) I cut boneless, skinless chicken breasts into thirds, lengthwise and cooked for 40minutes, turning over at 30 minutes to avoid one side being soggy. I also didn't have an egg or lemon juice so I used 3 Tbs of sour cream instead. I used Special K cereal instead of Corn Flakes. It tasted a bit salty, as some other reviewers noted.

Big Bad Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
Go ahead and double the recipe because everyone wanted two. These were fantastic! I will be saving this recipe. I added the mushroom and onion mix to the ground beef and cooked it that way. I also didn't have bacon or steak sauce. They stayed juicy. PS DONT skip the guacamole! I can see how you can leave it out if you're also topping with mushrooms and onions, but our's were IN the burger and the guacamole was fantastic on top. Then again, we live in Arizona and make it fresh daily, so our guac is probably better out here.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2012
These were a little thick. I had to put the pan on low and cover them so that the middles would cook. I don't know why mine turned out so thick. Half way through I added a little more butter and some vanilla extract to the batter. Those pancakes were better but still thick. They were good. They were just thick, filling and took a long time to cook.
