Raised in Sacramento. Spent 20 years in Canada (British Columbia and Nova Scotia). 7 years in Colorado/Wyoming. Raised three kids, now have three grandkids, all in California.
My favorite things to cook
Meats and vegetables. Love to discover new soups and make old favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Turkey at Thanksgiving. Baked Ham at Easter. Prime Rib at Christmas. Fortunately, my wife is a pie maker: pumpkin and apple are her specialties.
My cooking triumphs
Ribs on the grill, also rack of lamb on the grill. I recently had great success with a rack of pork on the grill. I have a Mexican soup recipe that gets lots of attention and guests love my margaritas.
My cooking tragedies
I can still overcook or undercook just about anything I put my hand to.

Buttermilk Pancakes II
I must have done something wrong. I halved the recipe then used 2 eggs instead of 1-1/2, for obvious reasons. The resulting pancakes did not rise to be fluffy and the interior had an odd texture. I'm back to using a pre-mix product, for the near term, at least.

Honey-Brined Fried Chicken Breasts
The chicken breasts were very satisfactory. In cooking whole breast pieces in oil at 350F, I found the breading burned before the interior was cooked. I either needed to turn the pieces more often or I might fillet the breasts to make them thinner to cook faster. I wonder if the oil temperature could be reduced after the coatings have browned on both sides without danger of the coating becoming oil-saturated. Any ideas?
