Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Super fast and easy. Get the spicy Italian sausages rockin' first though via boiling them. Then food process them or not. Save the boiling water and dump the pasta in so it can boil while you get going on the tomato/onion/garlic part. Food process your onion and tomato (unless using canned) and put with sausages in skillet. Add some extra Italian spices and/or fresh basil b/c this needs to be kicked up some. I used half and half and it was fine.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake III

Needs no frosting! This is a great cake! I followed others' advice -- I want to taste chocolate in a chocolate cake, not just sweetness and fatty frosting. I cut the sugar in half to 1 cup. To cut fat, I used unsweetened/natural applesauce to replace half the oil (i.e., 3/4 cup applesauce, 3/4 cup oil). I replaced nuts with chocolate chips, but that was just cuzza the nutty anti-nuts in the fam. I used a bundt pan and baked it for about 30 mins at 350, and then 15 more at 325. Skipped the frosting and just sifted powdered sugar over it for elegance. Looked and tasted sensational. Moist, chocolately, and simple. Bring it to any coffee or tea, or any get-together.

Best Brownies

Super-simple recipe. As others have mentioned, there is little clean-up. I mixed it all into the cooling pan after the butter-melting stage. I could see then that this recipe did not make a ton of batter, so expect the brownies to be "short" (pic. above is accurate), at about 1.5 centimeters tall. Being tired of store mixes that are too sweet and not cocoa-y enough, I lowered the sugar to 3/4 cup and bumped up the cocoa by 50% (an extra 1/6 cup) and used Special Dark cocoa. They came out nearly pitch black and were rich in flavor. I skipped the frosting b/c I've never understood the desire to frost already inherently sweet brownies. Great as is!

Purple Apple Slaw with Peanut Butter Dressing

No rice wine vinegar on hand and short on time? I used a balsamic (I had strawberry balsamic available), and it was great. Food-processed the red cabbage, apple, and onion. The rest was a breeze to whisk together (omitted the soy 'cause not a fan -- was still DE-licious!), and this took closer to only 15 minutes to throw together. Served this purple salad on appetizer plates and drizzled the dark brown sauce atop. Looked beautiful; tasted even better!
