Aloha Quick Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2010
LOVED this recipe, best quick bread I have made in a long time! Followed recipe exactly, well almost, used 1/3 c butter and 1/4 c vegetable oil (ran out of butter), and used frozen coconut instead of dried (which is wholeheartedly recommed, frozen is so much better than dried). I will be making this recipe for years to come!

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
Wow. Couldn't get better scones in any coffee house! So easy to make and so delicious. MUCH cheaper than buying them!! I split the dough into three sections, made one with chocolate shavings, one with cinnamon and one with blueberries. All three turned out delicious! I cut the butter in half and they were so moist and not overly crumbly. I had to bake them an extra 10 minutes, I like them with a slightly crunchy outside. I used bread flour instead of all purpose. What a wonderful scone recipe!! Oh and I didn't roll them out. I just took handfuls of dough, mixed in each topping (chocolate, cinnamon, or blueberry) by hand, shaped into a triangle and placed them on a baking sheet. Will be making these many many times to come!

Best Spinach Dip Ever

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
Eh. It was ok, don't know about Best Ever. Couldn't find the dry leek soup mix so I had to use dry onion. Guess its pretty good as far as spinach dip goes, maybe a little too sour for my tastes.

Hasty Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
Hey, not bad! I don't think I would say its better than the boxed kind but its definitely in second place! Certainly cheaper and actually takes less time. Tastes great warm or chilled and topped with whipped cream!

Mama's Italian Wedding Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2006
WOW! Awesome recipe! This soup was SOOO good, it hit the spot. I had the flu and italian wedding soup was the only thing I had a craving for. Comfort food, totally. I made my own meatballs with ground pork, ritz crazkers, 2 eggs and various spices. I baked them for 20 min on 400 and then added them to the soup. I added more spinach then recommended, for nutritional value, I used fresh chopped spinach that I tore into smaller pieces. Will make this recipe again, and again, and again. :o)

Pork Tenderloin with Mustard Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
My husband hated the mustard sauce but I loved it! My 3 year old, a super picky eater, ate it up too. I didn't use mustard powder, well I did but it was pretty awful. I mixed up a new batch with some plain yellow mustard, much much better! This is an excellent recipe though, you can buy a cheap cut of meat but with the overnight marinating it is made tender.

Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins I

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
These were a bit hit! I did alter the recipe a bit, added extra lemon extract and used about a cup of whole milk yogurt so they would be more moist. They were good muffins, will definitely make them again. They tasted delicious even the next day with some butter on top. I would recommend this recipe!

Fudgy Cream Cheese Tunnel Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
Very interesting cake! I think next time I will use 2 boxes of cake mix though (double the cake recipe) because it was a bit much fudge for the cake. It was a yummy cake though, I will totally make it again!

Dee's Hot Milk Sponge Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2006
This was a good cake, it was more like a pound cake than a sponge cake though. I made it for strawberry shortcake and it fared well for that purpose. I actually liked it better plain with just whipped cream on top. Yum!

Watergate Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2006
Pretty good, nothing out of this world, sorry to say. I prefer the traditional 5 cup salad. The pistashio pudding adds a unique flavor but a slight weird aftertaste. I used extra creamy cool ship and added a can of drained mandarin oranges. It actually tasted better than next day.

Chocolate Eclair Dessert

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2006
In one word...WOW! This recipe is awesome, one of my top favorite desserts. Its SO easy to make, requires little to no chill time, and tastes just fabulous. I doubled the recipe and it layers to the top of a 13x9 pan. My neighbors absolutely LOVED this dessert. I do one layer of chocolate pudding (mixed with cool whip) and one layer of vanilla. I microwave the frosting for 60 seconds and it easily pours over the top for a blemish free perfect glaze. Just be careful, the frosting is liquid so take caution when removing it from the microwave (I ruined one shirt, LOL). This recipe is the bomb though, everyone TRY IT!

YUMMY! Great marinade, yummy veggies. I baked this in my oven, 450 for 15 minutes or so. I would recommend marinating for several hours or even a day or two. The chicken was great (i used chicken and beef) but the beef was kind of tough. Good recipe though!!

Pumpkin Yeast Bread

A little plain to me, but I made an extra loaf for my husband's co-workers and they just raved about it. I made a honey butter to go with it and it added what it needed.

Oven Fried Chicken IV

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2005
Loved this recipe! I am not much of a meat eater but I went back for seconds. My husband approved. A great way to make faux fried chicken! I did add a little more salt, pepper and garlic powder and I used homemade yogurt instead of sour cream. I'm going to use less rosemary next time though, it was a little too much.

Classic Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: May 16, 2005
WOW! An awesome recipe!! I used just half the cheese to cut down on the fat and it was still out of this world! My super picky 3 year old said, and I quote, "I love this mac n cheese, mommy!" That says it all! :o)

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Reviewed: May 16, 2005
Making this again tonight! Awesome but simple recipe. I took everyone's suggestions and baked for 45 minutes instead of 30. I also added a little steak seasoning, seasoned salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Super easy recipe. I used my cast iron skillet in the oven to make them crispy. Everyone in the family loved this recipe, I will be making them again and again!

Old Fashioned Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2005
Eh, it was ok. I did add some of the things that other people suggested (hard boiled eggs, cucumber, pickles) but this salad just didn't do it for me. Even after added a ton of salt it still tasted bland. I like the recipe on the side of the Mueller's box better. Sorry.
