About this Cook
I'm a pastor, mother of 3 grown, 16 grandkids, 3 grt-grnd kids, and live in a household of 10+ (wkends). I love cooking, trying new recipes & creating my own. I am not a cook to use prepared foods, I like scratch cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Seafood is my favorite, then Mexican, and then any other tasty sounding ethnic recipes that comes my way. My husband gets upset cause I never fix the same thing twice. I don't always have same ingredients.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Bread pudding on Christmas morning, homemade eggnog on Christmas eve as we open one present each; New Years is trying a new wine and trying an outlandish new dish; Thanksgiving is NOT traditional, Easter is and we have lamb.
My cooking triumphs
The incredible banana meatloaf. WOW! My pickiest eater loves it. I succeed on most new dishes and know by the spices whether I will like it. If not, I change the spice. I use little or no salt, but lots of spices.
My cooking tragedies
Oh, first turkey. I didn't know giblets came inside nor proper cooking time. Disaster!!! And my first pan of cornbread...hid it in the dishtowel drawer and my mother-in-law found it. But learned from her. She was an awesome, down-home cook. Thanks Mary

Cherry Crisp
Great, quick, easy recipe. The only change I made was to add a 1/4 - 1/2 tsp almond extract, according to your taste. Our grandmothers always used a little almond flavor to their cherry anything. Wonderful, be adventurous...give it a try.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie
In conjunction with SDTERP, I totally agree with her review. You know there are just some things that should not be changed or made easier and this is one we should just leave alone. Well done Grandma Ople!!!

Banana Meatloaf
I cook for 10 people and one VERY picky 8 y/o and this is now our way of doing meatloaf. The picky eater consumes large amounts of this meatloaf. His mother is quite picky, so to have both of them eat it and like it was quite a feat. Thank you wo much. I changed nothing which is also very strange for me.
