Apple Crumb Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
No optional nuts/raisins, and I did add a little apple pie spice. Awesome recipe. First apple pie I'd made, and I will use this recipe again.

Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
Perfect w/changes, but probably a perfect original. Didn't have mushrooms on hand, but added 8oz chopped ham and a little jar of pimentos for additional color. I used up some half and half instead of milk, and my crust was not frozen. I seasoned w/Italian Seasoning. Added about 15 extra minutes cooking time. Don't tell Mom, but this was the best quiche I ever tasted. Will probably use exact changes next time, depending on what's on hand. Thanks for the recipe!

Tasty Sesame Tilapia

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2014
I never try a recipe w/o rave reviews, so I didn't think I'd need to change anything from what seemed like classic Asian flavors, but the balance was definitely off. Too many low notes- not enough bite. Needed more OJ or spice... or SOMEthing. My mom and I have different tastes when it comes to food so I thought she might like it since I didn't. No go. She didn't like it either w/recipe as written...

Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
I think Libby's canned recipe was better. This was a good recipe, but not as fantastic as the ratings led me to believe it might be. I was told at Thanksgiving that they wished I'd made my sweet potato pie instead... The texture was good, but the flavor was lacking. Not sure why, but one pie cooked way longer than the other, but still turned out ok.

Pumpkin Cookies with Penuche Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
Probably only a 3-star rating because I fudged with the recipe a little because I had a TON of pumpkin to get rid of. Followed another reviewer and replaced shortening with butter and replaced half the butter with more pumpkin and made "cakie bars". A little too wet for my taste but more dry ingredients would've covered it. Frosting was hard and pretty on top of the cakie cookies, but while we ate dinner, the frosted dessert rested under the stove light and caused the pretty frosting to melt into the cakies. Probably another reason that they were so gooey. I also added maple flavoring to the frosting and while the flavor on these cakies was awesome, I will probably not make them again unless I just want to perfect my own version of them...

Sweet Potato Pound Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
5-stars because 5 people finished it off in a day and a half, AND I've been recruited to make it for Thanksgiving. Good thing it is really easy. Used brown sugar instead of white and maple flavoring instead of vanilla and only had to bake it about 55 minutes. I thought a pineapple glaze sounded better than an orange one, but I didn't have pineapple juice on hand.

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
Awesomeness even though the servings listed are way off. It says it feeds 10, but really only fed 5, and that WITH adding a can of garlic/onion diced tomatoes. Increased recipe amounts and used what was on hand, which were kidneys/white beans instead of black beans, and chicken broth instead of vegetable. Increased cayenne since we like extra spicy. Great, great, great recipe!!

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
Will definitely use this marinade again. We used hot sauce on ours too, and it didn't kill the awesome tangy flavor!!

World's Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
Believe all the rave reviews! Stepdad said he'd eaten potato salad in over 30 countries and this was the best he ever ate. Using what was on hand without time to run to store, in place of onion, mustard, evaporated milk and regular vinegar, I used onion soup mix in with mayo, mustard powder, whole milk, and rice vinegar. I also used marg instead of butter. Probably just as good as original recipe because it was amazing. Made 12 servings for 6 people and it was gone in a day and a half and they couldn't tell me fast enough because they wanted more!
