Candied Pecans

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2014
As is, this recipe makes a delicious candied nut. There's no need to change anything -- the amount of sugar and salt are perfect. But if you want to kick it up a couple of notches, here are a few suggestions: - As mentioned before, replace the water with vanilla. - Add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the sugar/cinnamon mixture. The unexpected heat makes people go crazy for them! - After you mix the nuts in with the egg mixture, remove them from it using a slotted spoon and then toss them into the sugar mixture. All of the excess egg is not necessary. BTW, this recipe works with mixed nuts, as well, but pecans are best. Enjoy!

Very Popular Bubble Tea

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
I have to agree with the previous reviewer, darthotto. The "bubbles" are just plain weird. They're like little tasteless rubber balls -- kinda like unflavored gummy bears. After about 2 of 'em, I felt like I was eating something that really wasn't meant to be eaten. If the bubbles were flavored, this would be quite enjoyable. As for the tea recipe, it's just plain tea with cream -- neither fantastic nor bad. If you're into it, which apparently, thousands of people are, you will want to simmer them for 30 minutes, as others have said. Also, my guess is that you could put them into any kind of of tea that you like. Enjoy?

Coconut Pecan Frosting I

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2010
I thought that this recipe was O.K., but I agree with Laura B. that version that uses evaporated milk and sugar tastes better. The evaporated milk version (which I found on a box of Baker's chocolate) has more flavor dimensions to it. This version is kinda flat, by comparison. But it will do if you don't have evaporated milk on hand. Also, you don't have to temper the yolks if you thoroughly whisk them into the milk before you start cooking the mixture. FYI, the evaporated milk version calls for 1 (12 oz.) can evap. milk, 1.5 cups sugar, 1.5 sticks butter, 4 egg yolks, 1.5 teaspoons vanilla, 7 oz. coconut, and 1.5 cups chopped pecans. Prepare according to the directions noted in this recipe.
