I'm a wife, mom, author, "Clean Cuisine" recipe developer and founder of CleanCuisine.com Eating and enjoying good food plays a central role in our house and I love nothing more than to cook and entertain for my friends and family.
My favorite things to cook
This is hard to answer because I rarely cook the same thing twice. Experimenting in the kitchen is one of my favorite hobbies. But in general I love cooking anything with beans and whole grains, vegetable soups, roasted pastured whole turkey (the easiest and tastiest thing to make in the world!) and sweet treats that I can "health up" (my chocolate chip cookies made with beans are one of my absolute favorite dessert recipes.)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Birthday dinners! These are always a big deal in our family. Not only does the birthday girl/ boy get to decide the menu--and it is always something elaborate---but they also get a super special homemade cake too.
My cooking triumphs
I had an assignment from Natural Health magazine back in 2009 to create a super healthy complete Thanksgiving menu featuring 10 of Dr. Oz's favorite superfoods. The superfoods were not foods you typically see on the Thanksgiving table (things like persimmons, pomegranate, coconut, kale, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, etc.) and I only had 3 days to pull it off. It was a huge triumph because the meal got rave reviews from the staff at Natural Health and the readers. And it was the best Thanksgiving meal I have ever made.
My cooking tragedies
The chocolate cake I tried to make using beets. It was just awful. Not only did it taste terrible, the texture was dry and the cake was as hard as a rock. It was a flop in every possible way.
