Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV

Reviewed: May 17, 2011
I don't agree with other reviewers that these are "the best". These are average, nothing special, basic oatmeal raisin cookies. We were very disappointed. The 2 tsps of baking soda gave them a bitter taste to us. You can soak the raisins while making any oatmeal raisin recipe - it didn't make these cookies worthy of the the hype. I've tried several oatmeal raisin cookie recipes from this website and my favorite continues to be: Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (which has a full 5 star rating).

French Toast II

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2010
Awesome french toast! I used the cinnamon swirl bread from Trader Joes and sliced it myself to get nice thick slices. My family says this is the best french toast ever! Love it!

Cream Filled Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2010
I didn't think the extra effort put forth to make these cupcakes from scratch made any difference in the way they tasted. I would use a boxed mix next time. The creamy center reminded me of the frosting that the grocery store bakery puts on their decorated cakes - you know the one made mostly of shortening. But everyone seemed to like the filling and they ate them all up, so apparently I was the only one not too crazy about them! I filled them from the top after using a paring knife to "core" them. The top frosting covered it great.

Haitian French Toast

We loved the hint of orange - delicious! We didn't have french bread so we used thick cut bread and it turned out fine. Thanks for the recipe!

These are delicious! Next time I will add walnuts because I think they will add just that little something extra.

Blueberry Nut Oat Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
I wanted to try these because they seemed pretty low in fat and have a decent amount of fiber, but I was worried about how they would taste. They turned out very moist and have good flavor. I used 1 1/2 cups of applesauce and didn't have blueberries so I substituted dried cranberries. I think blueberries or raspberries would really make these better. Also, I found that 18 minutes was too long to bake, try 15 minutes instead.

Fish Fillets Italiano

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2004
This is a quick & easy recipe that tastes great! You can easily pick up a one lb package of frozen cod fillets at the grocery store & don't even have to thaw the fish! I plan to use basil instead of parsley next time because I think it would work even better for my family. Thanks for the recipe!

Jeanne's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2004
This recipe really exceeded my expectations. The flavor is great and my husband didn't notice the squash at all! (He HATES squash) I scaled the recipe for 6 servings with no problem & used zucchini instead of yellow squash. I also substituted turkey sausage that I had on hand for the kielbasa. It's a flexible recipe that you can make hours ahead, try it!

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2003
This recipe is so easy to make and you won't believe how good the ribs taste! If you like ribs & have a crock pot, you've got to try these! The only change I made (per other reviews) was to switch one cup of the ketchup with barbecue sauce. My whole family loved them and I've made them several times now. You just won't believe how fall-off-the-bone-tender they turn out!

Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: May 28, 2003
This is a great basic recipe, but I found it a bit bland & watery. I tried again & scaled it for 4 servings, used a small jar of spaghetti sauce & a can of tomato paste, which made a nice thick sauce. I also added spices (oregano, basil, seasoning salt, pepper) and used dehydrated onion. It came out great the 2nd time!

Butter Pecan Tartlets

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2003
These little tartlets are delicious! They do taste just like a pecan pie. They did take me a while to make, but my mini muffin pan is pretty small. I would suggest using a pan for 24 mini muffins instead of 12. These also freeze beautiful.

No Roll Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2003
This is just the recipe I was looking for! I love the flavor & texture of these cookies, not to mention how easy they are to make! I like to bake them a tiny bit longer so they come out nice & crisp! I also sprinkle some superfine sugar on them just as they come out of the oven for extra sparkle.

These were pretty easy and tasted very good! I made them for a tea party and they were a big hit! They freeze great too - just freeze them after they cool and then you can top them hours before serving & keep them cool in the fridge.

Awesome Roast Beef

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2003
This is definitely an easy option for those busy days! Per other reviews, I added a pkg of onion soup mix, canned mushrooms, carrots & celery. I seasoned the roast & browned it quickly in a skillet before putting it in the crock pot. I also added a chopped clove of garlic, 1 bay leaf, 1/2 tsp each of thyme, parsley, & peppercorns. So delicious & easy!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2002
This recipe makes a great cookie! You can tailor it to your liking: take them out a bit early for softer cookies, or bake them a little longer for a crisp cookie. I divided the dough and added raisins to one batch; chocolate chips to the second; and Craisins & white chocolate to the third, which were absolutely delicious! Of course, they were great without adding anything. I did reduce the cinnamon to 1 tsp and added 1/2 tsp ground cloves which gave them an even better taste. Also, I didn't grease the pan, chill the dough, or flatten w/fork and they turned out just fine. Try it for yourself!

Mandarin Almond Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2002
What a delicious salad! The oranges give it great color, and the dressing & almonds are so good. I left the onions out & served them on the side. My guests loved it! The other day I made this & added avocado, which was great too. The almonds are a cinch, but once they start to brown they can burn quickly.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2002
This is definitely an easy recipe, and the gravy is very good. It needs a little more seasoning for our taste which is an easy fix. The roast, however, has turned out fairly dry both times that I've tried it. Maybe that's just the way all pot roast is, but I still dream of finding a tender pot roast out there! If you know a secret to keep the meat tender, then using this recipe would produce an "awesome slow cooker pot roast"!

Baja Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2002
This recipe is delicious & easy! I made this for friends and it was gone so fast! Instead of cooking it on the stove, I kept the fish whole and rubbed it with a little oil, sprinkled it with the taco seasoning & lemon juice then wrapped it in foil and put it on the BBQ. It turned out so good that my friends wanted the recipe and my husband has requested it several times since!

A to Z Everything-but-the-Kitchen-Sink Chocolate Chip Cookies

I loved these cookies! The cornflakes & coconut give them such a great texture, and the spices give them a unique flavor. I received many compliments when I brought them to a gathering, but I loved them most of all!
