A Moody Chef: I reluctantly began cooking at an early age to feed my large family with two working parents. I now have a gourmet home chef cert. and love using fresh ingredients but still utilize shortcuts when the taste/time ratio proves worthy:)
My favorite things to cook
I'm partial to fall-off-the bone/ melt-in-your-mouth beef & lamb, in addition to always having soup (I'm a chowder-style soup fan) on hand!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday mornings! A strudel, brioche, or breakfast casserole is my favorite way to keep the hungry souls out of the kitchen until the main course.
My cooking triumphs
On avg. 3-4 brined & stuffed turkey's, equally delicious, every Thanksgiving without fail :) I'm equally proud of my recipe rotation for regular every day family meals, I adhere to a time vs. taste ratio that seems to please everyone. Also, my 'Mile High Apple Pie' is second to none:)
My cooking tragedies
First attempt at muffins (age 14) was probably the most epic, long story short- too much salt and several unfortunate victims waiting for their turn to the bathroom...Shame

My Chili
Excellent base chili but very soupy. The second time, I used 1/2 lb ground beef, 1/2 lb ground lamb and instead of garlic salt oregano & onion, used the entire packet of Lawry's chili powder (yes, I am supremely lazy). Since I halved the recipe I used I can diced tomato and one can tomato sauce, and substituted 1-2 cans Bush's chili beans in place of the kidney beans. Also, added cinnamon and cayenne pepper. This is a great recipe to build on to create your own version suited to your taste.

Oven Pot Roast
Delicious and easy! As suggested by previous reviews, I substituted beef consomme for the vermouth/white wine & added potatoes and carrots the last hr. The gravy is to-die-for and this meal is an excellent candidate for my weekly recipe rotation. (Leftovers make for a killer hoagie) sandwich)
