Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
Another recipe I've been making for years! Everyone loves it. I don't add cayenne because my kids don't approve and I use brown sugar instead of white. Super hearty and tasty! (And great on hot dogs!)

Cowboy Caviar

Don't forget to bring tortilla chips for dipping! Great base recipe and so easy to change up. My changes: Omit garlic salt and jalapenos, add fresh garlic, sea salt, and canned diced chilis (the kids aren't always down with the spicy!) And if I'm feeling extra sassy, I'll add diced avocado! People ALWAYS ask for the recipe.

Whole Wheat Snickerdoodles II

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
Another one of our faves! So easy and healthier than the typical white flour/shortening version. I use only whole wheat flour and instead of rolling the ball in the cinnamon/sugar mixture- I just sprinkle some over balls before putting them in the oven and they turn out just mah-velous!

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
I've been making these for almost every birthday in our household for 3 years (and I have 5 kids)! We love them. I usually make the dough in the bread machine and then refrigerate the second half of the dough to make sweet bread on another day. And instead of halving the filling/topping- we add it all to the one batch because...it just turns out so sticky and yummy. Do use softened butter and not melted to avoid making hard candy at the bottom of your dish!

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Very good, quick soup- especially if you have homemade or fresh salsa on hand! Chicken broth also works well.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
I can't believe I haven't rated these yet! I found this recipe via Emily Martin (Black Apple blog), so I knew they'd have to be superb. They are, hands down THE best chocolate chip cookies I've made/tasted. And they are also perfectly chewy when they've been cooled in the fridge (hello midnight snack)!

Whole Wheat Pita Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
A-mazing! 4 stars because of the salt- thankfully I took the advice of many reviewers and added the salt to the flour mixture instead of the yeast. I also used straight whole wheat flour. Then, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS EXACTLY! (with the exception of salt.) and these will puff up and be soft, yet strong enough for kids to fill themselves :) A total keeper!

Hummus III

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
This one is going into my recipe book! I only gave it 4 stars though, because there was just too much tahini for our taste. We double the recipe for our family of 7, and keep the tahini at a third cup. (This also allows me to make 4 double-batches from one jar of tahini.) I also add a little water when it's too thick. I am never buying hummus again!

Mexican Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: May 10, 2012
Great recipe! But definitely read through the reviews. Mine were delish, but came out a little crispy on the edges. I am thinking I didn't incorporate the shortening well enough before adding the water. Also, Whole Foods carries organic all-vegetable shortening. (no trans!) Just remember tortillas take practice, but don't be afraid to give it a try! Very worth your effort. (I also made these completely whole wheat, no white flour.)

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2012
Really, this is a favorite muffin recipe of ours. I make as written, except I substitute the regular sugar in the crumb topping with brown sugar. Oh, and I don't fill up the cups all the way to the top. I did it once and tho muffin tops all broke apart when I was taking them out of the tin. Would be so good with different types of fruit. I would also like to try it with buttermilk.

Honey Of An Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2010
I didn't change this recipe a bit- this is perfect bread! Seriously soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. My kids loved it alone...then we tried it with pumpkin butter and that was great too. A new fave!!
