Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
My best friend and I have a tradition of baking cakes together, and we usually don't make the same cake twice. This one has been done three times so far, and will no doubt be made many more. It has become a favorite of our friends and families! We usually substitute applesauce for the vegetable oil, and frost it with a whipped cream cream cheese frosting. One time we even forgot to add the sugar until after 10 minutes of baking, and it still turned out fine! Best carrot cake I've ever had; thanks for sharing the recipe!

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
My best friend and I use this on all our cakes, because we love it so much! We follow the advice of another reviewer and always put the bowl and beaters in the freezer for a few minutes before whipping the cream. For simple piping, this stuff works great! You just have to stick it in the fridge once in a while to cool it down (and using a gel food coloring is a good idea). We have also made versions with cocoa powder and melted dark chocolate (add slowly while stirring), which tasted absolutely divine.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
These cookies are absolutely amazing! I love soft, chewy cookies, and have had trouble finding recipes that don't turn out hard and crunchy. These are easy to make, and just the way I like them. I even love the addition of the walnuts, though I'm not normally a huge nut fan. I made a batch to bring to my Austrian choir, and they all loved them as well!

Turkey with Apple Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
I only made the stuffing, but it was excellent. A lot like what my mom makes, and stuffing was always my favorite part of Thanksgiving growing up. Because some reviewers suggested adding more liquid, I put in some extra egg and a bit of chicken broth. It was really tasty! I'll definitely be making this again.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
I had never cooked a whole bird in my life before trying this recipe, and it got nothing but compliments. Took a bit longer than expected, about four and a half hours, but possibly due to my tiny European oven? Anyway, it was really good and incredibly simple. I can't wait to use up the leftovers!

Cranberry Sauce

Awesome. So easy and so tasty. If I'd known it was this simple to make cranberry sauce, I would have been doing it for years. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Cheese Soup with Broccoli

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2011
I made this with grated Emmentaler, since I can't get Velveeta or the like in Austria, and it turned out great! Quick and easy, and very tasty. Thanks for sharing!

Really great flavor, and easy to make. Next time I think I'll throw in more tomatoes though.

Banana Pancakes I

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2012
Tasty pancakes! I messed with it a bit based on other reviews-- added about 2 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp cinnamon. I also used buttermilk instead of regular milk, because I had some to get rid of. And I threw some leftover blueberries into one of them, and that was my favorite.

Hamburger Rice Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
A great base for someone just learning to cook. I cut the recipe in half and used turkey hot dogs instead of ground beef, and also added celery, chili powder, chicken bouillon, corn and garlic. Used a half cup of rice, and ended up having to add a cup of water after simmering for 40 minutes. It has great flavor, and is definitely a recipe to be experimented with.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
This is a great, easy cake. I made it all the time in college, because it requires minimal ingredients and utensils. It's not gourmet, but it's really tasty, and it baked evenly even in my warped pan. I made it with salted butter once, and thought that added a nice flavor.

Vegetarian Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
Excellent flavor! My friends didn't believe that this was vegetarian. I gave it 4 stars because I had some trouble with the flour clumping. Next time I think I'll add the flour after the broth, so that it can dissolve more effectively.
