Fairy Godmother Rice

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2003
I was surprised at what a hit this was at our house. I hardly ever use instant rice, preferring the real stuff in both taste and texture, but there is so much additional flavor going on here that I didn't even notice it was instant. I did add too much soy and that taste was a little over powering. The soup mix was a nice touch and I will make this again for sure. My picky husband even liked it and he hates rice. Thanks Ryan for a great easy recipe that isn't from a box.

Breakfast Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2003
Good, fast, and easy breakfast. You can replace the meat with sausage or ham easily. I prefer to use frozen biscuits rather than canned, but either work. English muffins do also.

Garlic Spaghetti II

Quick easy spaghetti sauce. Nothing too fancy. I added a little sugar.

BBQ Potato Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2003
These were interesting, a nice change from grilled potatoes in foil. I added a little too much salt to mine, but that was a minor thing. The potatoes were best where the outside got crispy. They are super easy and really not very fattening. I think I will try it with other spices next time.

Bacon and Cheddar Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2003
These were okay. I don't like the taste of mayo and so thought it was too strong. Other than that I didn't find anything special about them.

Italian Meatballs with Spaghetti

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2003
The meatballs in this recipe were fine, nothing too extrodanary though. The sauce was too tangy for our tastes though. Maybe because I used a cheap cooking wine. I won't make this again.

Orange-Glazed Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2003
My husband really liked this recipe. I had to use Sweet and Tangy A-1 since it was all I had and I found the recipe a little too sweet. I think it would be better with regular A-1. It was however a nice change for the round steak I used. Plus, it was super fast and easy. A great last minute, I don't know what to make recipe.

Campfire Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2003
The worchestershire sauce in these adds a nice little touch I have not experienced in grilled potatoes before. I really liked it. Our grilled ran out of gas, so I had to cook these in the oven, I baked at 400 for 45 minutes and then had to microwave for another 10 because they weren't quite done. I will make again, they were very tasty.

Chicken Francese for One

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2003
I ran into the same issue other reviewers did. There is too much butter, not enough lemon and the cheese does strange things when added. I tried letting the butter mixture cool before adding the cheese and it didn't really help. The chicken itself did have good flavor though. If I make again, I would cut the butter in half, double the amount of lemon and maybe add a little white wine or chicken broth.

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2003
These were great. Super easy to make and very yummy. They do have a cake like texture and they are a nice change from regular muffins. I did not make any changes and mine came out perfect. I will make again for sure.

Apple Pork Chop Skillet

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2003
This was not bad for a one skillet meal. My 21 month old daughter and I liked it. I made a few changes. I seasoned the chops well with seasoned salt and pepper before browning. I also used 3/4 cup apple juice and 3/4 cup chicken broth. I thought it had a nice apple taste that was not over powering. I used red delicious apples since that was what I had. This recipe serves its purpose...I had dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes and I didn't have to go to the store. For that reason alone I will keep it in mind.

Chris' Bay Area Burger

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2003
I didn't care for these too much. They were salty and the basil was too strong for out tastes. Both my husband and I loaded them with other things to cover the taste.

Shredded Potato Quiche

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2003
I love the concept of this recipe, but I also had trouble getting the crust to brown. I even turned the oven up 25 degrees while baking it. I will keep playing with it though because it is so good. The nice thing about it is I can enjoy a quiche and don't have to mess with making a pie crust.

Elaine's Sweet and Tangy Loose Beef BBQ

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2003
My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe. I had to cook the meat about 4 hours on high to get it to shredding consistency, but that was minor since I already planned to cook it all day. I did find the ketchup taste too strong and added more sugar and vinegar to even it out. I also didn't have any cheyanne so I used hot sauce to give it kick. My husband really like and since I love crock pot recipes I will make it again for sure.

Down Home Macaroni and Cheese

Nice Mac and Cheese recipe. Easy to make, reheats well, and tasty. The velveta gives a little extra creamyness. I will make again since we love homemade mac and cheese at out house.

Heather's Best Ever Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2003
This was a good baked chicken recipe. The meat was tender and juicy. I was disappointed in the lack of Ranch flavor though. Since I was using boneless breasts I baked at 400 for 30 minutes. I may make again since it was easy. Only catch is remember to marinade the chicken.

BBQ Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2003
My husband really liked this when I made it last night for his lunch (I had him try it to make sure it tasted okay). He complained that it didn't do well in his lunch box though. It got watery overnight. I would suggest not making until right before you are going to serve. I used a left over bbq chicken breast I had and just added the rest of the ingredients in.

Chicken Salad Wraps

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2003
I never really understand my husband, but he hated this and wouldn't even eat it. When I asked what is wrong he complained only that salsa and mayo don't go together. Because I don't like mayo I didn't even try it.

Hugh's Dry Rub

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2003
I really liked this rub, but my husband thought it was over powering. Because we have a toddler (and I found out too late I didn't have any) I left the cayenne out. I won't make it again, because my husband hated it, but I would recommend you try it because I did like it. I found the flavor a little smokey and used it on steaks that I grilled.

Garlic Creamed Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2003
The chicken in this dish is very forgettable, the sauce however, is to die for. It is rich and creamy and goes perfect over noodles. I made the same amount of sauce for two chicken breasts and boy am I glad that I did. I have a few additional changes I will make next time though. First, I would cube and brown the chicken first. It is a little anemic as is. I will also try adding some parsley or paprika to give the sauce a little color. This dish, will however get made again. I even used low fat cream of mushroom and fat free cream cheese and am still giving it this rave review. You really need to try it.
