Blueberry Coffee Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2003
I made this recipe as muffins. The taste was excellent, but they are rather dense for muffins. I think they would have been better as a coffee cake. I baked at 375 or 23 minutes and they were done perfectly. One think I notices was the batter is very think. I was nervous about this, but they did turn our fine. If I want to make a coffee cake I would use this recipe again, but I think I will keep looking for a blueberry muffin recipe.

Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2003
I don't think it is much of a surprise that a recipe from Nestle is five stars, but my husband was sure excited to have them and has already asked for them again. They are best when still warm and gooey, but I was surprised to find that even this morning they are still soft. Most cookie recipes will harden over night. I followed the recipe exactly and would not recommend any changes. If you have a choco-holic in your house, this is the recipe for you!

Chicken Tortilla Soup III

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2003
This was not what I wanted. It was bland and tasteless. I had to add a ton of hot sauce to give it some spice at all. My 2 year old wouldn't eat it even before I added the hot sauce. My husband took one look and opted for a sandwich. I suppose I could adjust the spices, but really based on the fat content I don't think it is worth it. I will try a different recipe next time.

Taco Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2003
This was a good 30 minute meal. I liked it and so did my two year old daughter. I think next time I will make with cornbread sticks rather than the crescent rolls. I also added some black olives and salsa. I was a little nervous about adding the chips on top and didn't add the whole bag, but it turned out great.

Rice Mess

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2003
This is a quick and easy one pot meal. I had left over rice, so mine was even easier. I think if I make this again I will add a little italian seasoning to the mix and it was bland. My 22 month old daughter liked it though. I think it would also be good with a little chili power and cumin mixed in and substitute corn and black olives for the mushrooms to give it a mexican feel.

Clayton's Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2003
Good basic recipe. I browned my chops on the stove first. Also, because I only needed 2 pork chops I only used one can of cream of mushroom and left the cream of celery out. Also halved the sour cream. The sour cream makes the mushroom soup taste a lot like hamburger stroganoff, not that I don't like that. I added a little parsley and paprika for color. I will probably make again simply because it is so simple. My chops came out cooked perfectly, I know others complained of theirs being dry, but I used thick cut boneless pork chops, that may have been why.

Chocolate Banana Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2003
This recipe was huge hit at out house. I cut the recipe in half and made 1 1/2 dozen muffins. I simply baked at the same temp for 18 minutes. They came out perfect. Moist and fluffy with a great chocolate taste. I will make again.

Delmonico Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2003
This recipe was a hit at out house. It is similar but a little different from the hashbrown recipe I have been using for years. Next time I make though I will have to change a few things. First, when I mixed the seasoning with the butter it made it difficult to spread evenly. I would suggest sprinkling the seasoning on the potato layers and then spreading the butter. I had sections that were really salty and some that needed a lot of salt. I used gold potatoes, I don't know if this is why, but it got watery. I don't know how to fix that though. The taste was creamy and very rich.

Mouthwatering Whiskey Grill Glaze

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2003
We had this on grilled chicken breasts. It was good, different and a nice change from BBQ sauce. I made the mistake of walking away from the stove while it was cooking though. DO NOT do this. The whiskey makes it boil very quickly, I am still three days later trying to get the caramelized mess up. The sauce didn't get as thick as I would have liked though. It was a little watery and all of my sugar did not disolve. I will cut the sugar back by 1/4 cup if I make this again.

Tarragon Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2003
This is tasty. I couldn't find plain yogurt so just used fat free mayo. Also, since fresh chives are out of season used dried. Was really tasty and will make again. My husband ate for lunch on lettuce.

Baked Ravioli

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2003
My family liked this, although other reviews are right, it tastes a lot like lasagna. I used a 9 oz package of fresh ravioli and made 1/4 of the sauce. This was perfect for the three of us and even had enough left over for my daughter and I to have for lunch today. I would like to try this with meat ravioli next time. I think it would make an interesting combination. Also, if anyone is wondering I don't see why you can't use jarred sauce to save time. I made the sauce as directed. It was good, but nothing spectacular.

Cheesiest Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2003
This was really great. My daughter and I loved it. Warning though, doesn't work well in the crock pot. I tried this and the cheese forms a glob. Next time I will simply take the time to make on the stove top. I also added about a tablespoon of sugar.

Albino Pasta

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2003
My daughter and I eat one of a number of variations of this dish frequently for lunch or dinner. Make sure you use a good quality olive oil and real parmesean cheese (not the stuff in the green can). If you like, you can also add some crushed red pepper flakes to the garlic while it sautes to add a little kick.

Doreen's Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2003
My husband and I loved this recipe, but agreed we think it would be better on chicken. It tastes very similar to Hawaiian style teriyaki. I am going to make this again but use for chicken in the future.

Lemon Pepper Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2003
Very lemony and tasty. This recipe was super easy and had excellent flavor. My 2 year old didn't care for all the pepper, so I suppose that means it isn't very kid friendly, but my husband and I really enjoyed it. I made the recipe as is and wouldn't change anything.

Swedish Meatballs II

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2003
Tastes just like the frozen TV dinner my daughter loves so much. Because I used meatballs already in my freezer it was really fast and easy also. I was surprised at how much a difference the nutmeg makes too. Thanks for a tasty dinner Marla.

Skillet Chops with Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2003
This recipe was really very average. Nothing bad about it, but nothing exciting either. When you add this to the fact that my breading got soggy I will not make again.

Pork Tenderloin in Bourbon

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2003
This was okay, the flavor was not as strong as I would have liked it though. I marinated for about three hours. Maybe it should have stayed in over night. There wasn't a temp listed so I baked at 350 for 45 minutes and it came out perfectly done. I don't think I will make again because I prefer my marinades to leave more flavor. All I could really taste in the meat was the bourbon.

Cinnabutter

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2003
Good, but a little too sweet and not enough cinnamon for us. It is a nice change from regular butter though. Next time I make I would double the amount of spice used.

Seattle Dutch Babies

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2003
These were interesting. I am familiar with popovers, but this was my first time eating a Seattle Dutch Baby. It doesn't have a lot of flavor and you really need to pair it with something that has a strong taste like fresh berries. I used apples and cinnabutter (also from this site), but it wasn't enough and really needed more. I think it would be good with fresh berries and powdered sugar though. I may try it again when berry season comes around.
