Caramelized Spicy Pumpkin Seeds

I HATE pumpkin seeds, and I used to think I meant that. I've been living by "waste not, want not" and I decided this year to toast and eat my seeds, despite my aversion to them. These were FABULOUS! I actually ended up adding 2 pinches - 1/4 tsp of the cayenne pepper, and upping the other spice amounts by a couple shakes, but they came out so delicious! I will never again throw out my pumpkin seeds! I only wish you could buy more raw ones in bulk! (minus the pumpkin)

Cranberry, Apple, and Fresh Ginger Chutney

This was fabulous! I loved the addition of fresh ginger, and ended up adding about a tablespoon and a smidgen (rounded spoonful) of fresh minced ginger, as well as 1/2 tsp of salt. I went a little heavy on the onion, as well as the celery and it turned out great! (not like recipe altering heavy, just like.... 1/4 a cup extra, about (or less than that). I have a BHG recipe I used to use for cranberry sauce that is getting the boot for this one!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

I had the horrible experience of stupidly making buttermilk with vinegar, instead of using the real stuff...I'm pretty sure that's what caused my batter to separate and not bake up properly. The baking soda would have been neutralized, theoretically, and practically it came out very much like a custard on top and cornbread on bottom. Disappointing, but I would love to re-try the recipe with real buttermilk. Here's to next time!
