Gob time!
About this Cook
My favorite thing to do in the kitchen is to bake with my daughter. Baking is my definite preference.
My favorite things to cook
Cookies, cakes, and basically any dessert. I also like to make Italian dishes and beef dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For 30 years now, my mother and I, and now my daughter, bake gobs (known to some as whoopie pies) every summer. We used to bake them for our family reunion and now we donate them in memory of my grandma to her church for their summer festival. Now my daughter loves to help. We all have our own task. My mom mixes the batter for the gobs and the filling. I drop them on the baking sheets, bake them, match the cookie parts (sometimes we have many many sizes since we have always just dropped batter from a spoon). My daughter spreads the filling. And my mom wraps them. We love them! I even included some photos of us baking them one year and included them in my scrapbook with our secret family recipe. Another favorite tradition was started about 6 years ago by my cousin. We take turns each year making an Italian meal (she makes lasagna and I make stuffed shells) and having family over for Christmas Eve!!! My daughter loves it when its our turn. She loves to play hostess.
My cooking triumphs
Anytime I can get my daughter to try anything new is a cooking triumph! She like the French Dip from this site.
My cooking tragedies
I can't really think of any major ones right now.

Banana Cake VI
This cake was very moist & yummy, but I need to find a different icing for it. I made the cream cheese frosting, but it was way too sweet for this cake. What I really wanted was a nice creamy refrigerated icing, but I couldn't settle on a recipe. I ended up making my standard buttercream recipe but it was too sweet also. We ended up scraping off most of the icing and eating it plain. I do think it would be awesome with a nice creamy not overly sweet icing.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars IV
I am giving this recipe 5 stars because I should have made it as stated. Instead I followed some reviews that I wish I hadn't. I decreased the butter to less than 3/4 cup and I increased the chocolate chips to 3 cups. The base ended up a little dry and crumbly and the chocolate layer was too too too chocolatey. That's alot coming from me - a confirmed chocoholic. The chocolate layer was just too overpowering. I will make these again & include between 3/4 and 1 cup butter & stick with 2 cups of chocolate chips.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan
This was excellent - my picky teen daughter even liked it. I'm not usually a fan of mild white fish - I tend to make salmon dishes. But this was very good - of course the topping is what made it! I took the suggestions of others & only used 2T butter, substituted garlic salt for celery salt, and added a little mozarella and 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs to the topping. Very good!
