I guess after cooking for over 40 years, I can consider myself an expert. I'm always still learning things, though, and on the hunt for great new recipes.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, and I love to make good, old-fashioned down-home meals and then watch everybody over-eat. Just love that!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm a traditionalist, period. I just want flavors that compliment each other, dishes that go together, and a lot of people to enjoy all of it. Although, I'm happy enough pleasing a small table of friends, too.
My cooking triumphs
Somehow, I remember the disasters much better, like my first hockey-puck scratch biscuits. We took them out in the yard and threw them for the dog to retrieve. However, I have recently learned to make a pretty decent crawfish et tu fey. And my German Chocolate Pie is really (blushes here) to die for. I make it during holidays and there is never any left after the first go-round.
My cooking tragedies
See above. And there are plenty more where that came from. Right now, I'm having a hard time, since moving to the mountains last Fall, with high-altitude cooking. All my favorite recipes are having to be altered, and most are not faring well.
