About this Cook
As a retired university professor, I find myself doing anything except teaching, even though I absolutely loved it.
My favorite things to cook
I cook a wide variety of things and enjoy internet research to fit a need since I cook for elderly and disabled people plus a special program at church. Of course, we have to include potlucks!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up on a farm in Missouri and am trying to get away from the fried foods that we had. As a teenager I had to cook for farm workers, so I'm used to cooking for a big group.
My cooking triumphs
No specific triumphs come to mind, but I think I do a good job of knowing what a dish is going to taste like by reading the recipe. There is a wide variety of tastes in my family, so it is a challenge to have a complete meal for everyone when we all get together.
My cooking tragedies
My Dad used to say my biscuits could be used for hockey punks! Thankfully, I have gotten beyond that. When I need to use a caterer I give them my recipes. One caterer didn't know about using sunflower seeds, so she put the seed and hull in a dish! My guests enjoy teasing me even today about the extra fiber!

Fresh Strawberry Upside Down Cake
How wonderful! I would suggest, however, putting it in two cake pans instead of a 9x13 unless you have a platter that would handle that big a cake once you turn it upside down.

Aunt Norma's Rhubarb Muffins
I have to agree with so many reviews on this site! These muffins are wonderful! The next time I make them I will probably add a bit more rhubarb. I did chop up the rhubarb in fairly fine pieces and used pecans instead of walnuts just because of personal choice.

Vegetable Pizza I
Instead of cutting this AFTER you have put the cream cheese mixture and veggies on it, cut it BEFORE you put anything on it. That way, if you serve it in the pan, it isn't messed up when you cut it. If you serve it in something else, it is still much easier to get out of the pan. I use a pizza cutter to cut the crust.
