I've been married to the same wonderful man for almost 22 years. I'm also Mom to three wonderful kids, 19, 16 and 12. I work as the bakery manager at an extremely busy, local farm market from March to December and then I take the winters off to bake the things I love and practice on my cake decorating skills. Someday I would like to open my own small bakery for folks to come in and sit down to enjoy a cup of coffee and something sweet.
My favorite things to cook
I do love to cook and bake but baking is my "first love." My favorite time of year is Christmas and I enjoy making all of the wonderful treats that go along with the holiday. I like to make meals and desserts that aren't too involved yet still produce that "WOW" result.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On New Years Day we enjoy homemade chinese food, as it's a nice break from all of the 101 ways to have turkey. I especially enjoy the chicken (or turkey) eggrolls. On New Years eve the kids and I hit the kitchen and whip up sweet treats like peanut butter balls, porcupines and even pull out the Easy Bake Oven!
My cooking triumphs
I am most proud of the first place I was awarded a couple of years ago in an "Apples of Nova Scotia" contest. I was chosen from many applicants to bake up my recipe for Apple Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce and then was judged by a local chef. I was very surprised to win first place in the Dessert category.
My cooking tragedies
It might have been when the pizza I was cooking caught on fire in the oven!
