Pork Chops with Apple Cider Glaze

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2013
These pork chops were DELICIOUS!! Everyone in my family LOVED them, including my 4 year old. He kept asking for more "poke chops" haha! I made this recipe as directed. I know someone mentioned in their review that they didn't really get a sticky glaze, but I absolutely did. You just have to be patient with the reduction. Also - if you are considering using dried rosemary that you have in your spice rack, I would implore you to use fresh rosemary instead. Nothing beats the taste when you use fresh spices (in anything really. In my opinion a totally different flavor than when you use the dried spices that come in your spice rack! Rosemary has become one of my favorite spices but only when fresh and it's a wonderful addition in this recipe!! Thanks chef John for a superb recipe! This is definitely going into our regular rotation.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
This was just Meh...for my family. I basically followed the recipe with the exclusion of the fresh ginger root. DIdn't have frest so I used the ground kind you find in the spice section. My husband liked it the most. I think Orange Juice would have added to this recipe, but didn't think about adding until it was already plated and we were sitting down to eat. Probably will not try again, but I apprecaite it being submitted. It's really great trying new recipes! Everyone's taste is different to what isn't great to me might be fabulous to you!

Slow Cooker Bolognese

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2012
Our family just didn't care for it. It was a little bland for our taste. I made according to recipe and everyone said it was just OK. I heated the leftovers but added more garlic, oregano, salt and some cayenne pepper and they liked it more than the first time but asked that I stick to what I usually make. I admit we are an extremely picky family when it comes to spaghetti sauces. Thanks for submitting though.

Baked Ziti III

Reviewed: May 19, 2011
This ziti is FAB! I used Bertrolli Olive Oil and Garlic sauce (which is my favorite sauce). I always add 2-4 cloves of additional garlic to the sauce, a teaspoon of oregano, 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and 1/4 cup grated parmasean cheese. I would use half of this for 1 jar. Yes, I have an addiction to garlic....and I add cayenne pepper to almost everything. I followed the recipe as written (aside from my personal additions to the jars of spaghetti sauce). I did follow the recommendations of another reviewer and mixed the noodles with sour cream. This turned out fabulously. My husband and 12 year old daughter loved it as did my 2 year old son. This is definitely going into my rotation and will be the "go to dish to take to pot lucks". Thank you Vardieiis for such a wonderful recipe. Oh, and one more thing. The fresh basil sprinkled over the top is a must. I just want to emphasise fresh basil as dried basil spice can just not compare to using fresh! You can't go wrong with this recipe!! WE LOVE IT!!!

Creamed Chipped Beef On Toast

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2011
This is just like my Nanny used to make. The only thing I did different is we eat ours over potatoes. Just boil the potatoes, mash them on your plate. Add some butter and salt and pepper and put the chipped beef over it. That is always how we ate it growing up. Oh, and I leave the skin on my potato but the kids like it without! Thanks for this reveiw. I haven't had this in ages. Bring back great childhood memories with my Nanny (grandma).

Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2011
well, let me start by saying WOW! These were fabulous. This is the first time I have ever made pinto beans without having some form of meat in it. Typically, I make them with bacon or salt pork. These were by far the best pinto beans EVER! They smelled wonderful cooking in the slow cooker and after about 4 hours I couldn't resist trying them. They tasted awesome! My 12 year old daughter came home from school and immediately wanted to know what was cooking and if she could taste! She loved them! My 2 year old son ate two heaping serving spoons full of beans for dinner. I took about half of them and made them refried nd served with tacos, and the remainder I left in "soup" form for my husband and son for lunch. It was really great that these didn't even need to be soaked overnight. Just threw them in the crock pot with the rest of the ingredients and ..viola....yummy, delicious goodness! These were perfect made exactly as the recipe states! Can't wait to make again! Thank you for a great recipe!

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
O M G! SO GOOD! I made these and sent some to work for my husbands assistant. Shortly after, I get an email telling me I am a genius! I have made these so many times and EVERYONE raves over them. I use chocolate fudge cake, with 3/4 can whipped cream cheese frosting. I do trim off the cruncy edges. Roll and dip in semi sweet chocolate. I also tried strawberry with cream cheese and white chocolate and semi sweet chocolate. Didn't care for that combo as much. I am constantly getting requests to make these. especially from my husband who I fear need to go to CBA (cake ball anonymous). Thanks for sharing such a great recipe!

Spicy Basil Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
This turned out great. It actually ended up being close to the Basil Chicken we eat at our local Thai restaurant. I did make a few changes. First, I used ground chicken, as the restaurant we go to uses ground, not boneless. I didn't have any chile peppers, but I did have a chile paste, so I used that in place. Also, didn't have any thai basil, so used regular. I was worried that it would ruin it. It didnt' ruin it, but can definitley tell a difference between thai basil and the regular basil you buy from the store. Oh, and I think that in order to achieve the truly authentic taste, fresh basil is a must, even if it's not thai basil. Served with Jasmine rice. It turned out spicier than I thought it would, using the chile paste, but I would still do it that way next time. I was worried it might be too spicy for my daughter, but she liked it! Mind you, I add cayenne pepper to almost everything I cook, so almost everything we eat has a little heat. THis was definitley more than what my daughter is used to. My husband and I love the spiciness. Oh man, was this good. Just writing this review has me wanting it again!

These turned out great. Unfortunately, we had just moved and my deep fryer was packed so I decided to bake. They turned out alright, but I will definitely fry them next time! Thanks for sharing!

Southwestern Egg Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
These were great. I made a few changes, due to what I had on hand. I used egg roll wrappers, instead of tortillas and added more cilantro. Since we had just moved and my deep fryer was packed up, I baked them. THey turned out great. However, I have no doubt they are awesome with tortillas and next time I will definitely deep fry them. Also, I took 8oz velveeta melted and added a can of rotel to dip them in. Made these for a party and was lucky I even got one! They were eaten almost as quickly as I put them out! Thanks for sharing!

Sugar Cookie Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
This was tough for me to rate. So, for me this recipe gets 4 stars based on presentation. The way this glaze dries is terrific and looks great on the cookies. You can do some great things with this recipe. However, for flavor, I would have to give it 3 stars. I made it according to the recipe and it just didn't really do much for us in terms of taste. They cookies looked great, but fell a little short in the taste department for us. Maybe I will try experimenting with some different extract flavors and see if I can make this work all around. Thank you for sharing your recipe!

McCormick® Stuffed French Toast

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
These were ok. I think I will try to make this again, as I would like to have something a little different on weekends (usually choc chip pancakes and cinnamon french toast). My biggest problem with this is that I have issues with soggy bread. I think that next time I will cook each piece individually so they get nice and crisp (more on the well done side) and once they are done, I would put only one tablespoon in between and then top them with whipped cream and fruit of choice. In our case, we will go with strawberries. Thanks for sharing though. It gives me a good place to start!

Chocolate Truffle Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
These were alright. The kids and husband liked them more than I did. They are definitely a rich cookie. I made exactly according to recipe but rolled half of the bach in powdered sugar before baking. They look and smell so yummy while cooking. For me, as a personaly preference, they were just too rich. Not anything wrong with the recipe, just my taste!! By the way, had no problems with the dough either! Thanks for sharing!

Chicken Cordon Bleu I

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
This was great. My husband and kids both liked it. I didn't have any swiss on hand so I used provolone. Personally, I would like it better with swiss, but made do. It was still good. I pounded my chicken breasts very thin, so I could have reduced the cooking time a little as they were on the dry side, but to no fault of the submitter of this recipe. I should have known to lower the cook time. Thanks for submitting!

Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
I really wanted to love these, but they fell a little short for me. First off, when it comes to chocolate chip cookies, or the dough I tend to be very picky. As far as premade cookies go, only the nestle tollhouse squares will I eat. I have my own choco chip recipe that I make if I want homemade ones...and strangely it's not the tollhouse recipe. Maybe I would like them better dipped in chocolate. I am going to try with the ones I just made and see if that give them that little extra.

Spicy Rapid Roast Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
This was excellent. Although the worst part of the chicken is the skin, it is a must have for my husband and he loved it! My daughter loved it as well. I just wish more of the flavor actually got to the chicken, and not just the skin. I think the next time I make this (and there will be a next time) I will do what another review mentioned they do and rub it under the skin too, and then let it sit overnight before roasting the next day. Oh, and I had no smoke coming out of my oven when I made this. Thanks for sharing!

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
I thought this was OK. I did make a few changes, but only in that I added a few additional vegetables (broccoli, zuccini, and mushrooms) to what was already listed in the ingredients. We liked the flavor of the potatoes and broccoli but didn't care for the flavor of the other vegetables. If I make this again, it would be made with only potatoes and broccoli. Although we love zuccini and squash (especially my 2 and 12 year olds) they really prefer it sauteed with a little garlic and olive oil. Thanks for submitting though! Always like to try a new take on things!
