About this Cook
I am from Texas. This means I can BBQ, TexMex, or fry pretty much any ingredient you put in front of me (if I am not adding hot sauce to it). I grew up on salt and pepper flavoring until at 21 a friend introduced me to curries, gingers, and herbs galore. I was hooked after that. I am here to branch out from my beloved state to taste the world around me. I love trying something new and tackling new challenges. I enjoy cooking something I have never cooked before. My goal is to be able to look at a couple of random ingredients and just be able to throw something together without much thought to it.
My favorite things to cook
I love pretty much anything that can be eaten in a bowl with a spoon or that is baked.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As soon as the cold hits, the spice cabinet gets busted wide open! I'm not a big fan of the holidays because of how commercial they've become. The kitchen seems to make all that commercialism fade away as family comes together. Everyone knows that if you are in my kitchen, you will be put to work or you will leave it quickly.
My cooking triumphs
I have a diabetic boyfriend, so learning to put down the bad of sugar and picking up a bag of Splenda has been an interesting adventure.
My cooking tragedies
I gave food poisoning to my fifth grade class with some pumpkin stew I had made for a Colonial History project. I also tried baking a huge cupcake cake for my boyfriend using Splenda for the first time. What was supposed to be a 10in cake came out of the oven in 1/4in thick disks as hard as a rock.

Cajun Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe
Was out of hot sauce, so I used sriracha. It added some heat and cleared sinuses, but it was still awesome. I also doubled up on the shrimp instead of bothering with the crawdads. Served it with rice cooked in chicken broth. It was a hit.

Hot Buttered Rum Batter
A Christmas party hit! I doubled the spice requirements and added a pinch of clove. Adults loved it and the kids loved the virgin version of it (hot cider used instead of water and rum).

Friendship Soup Mix in a Jar
Easy to make and very pretty. I added black beans.
