Real Strawberry Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2012
Made this frosting yesterday. The flavor was nice and the strawberry certainly came through well but the frosting was a little too sweet and the texture very grainy due to the seed remnants. A smoother creamier frosting would have been preferred.

Flat Iron Steak with Balsamic Reduction

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2010
I will certainly make this again. I made this per the recipe but I recommend brushing the steak with olive oil and coating with peppercorns and salt then let it sit in the fridge for an hour or more prior to cooking. I have made several pepper steaks and I find that letting them "marinate" for some time helps. The balsamic vinegar sure smelled potent during and directly after cooking but it tasted just fine on the steak. Thanks

Maple Walnut Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
I made this pie tonight. I thought it was ok the topping is what sets this pie apart from any other pumpkin pie I have made. You have to be careful applying the crumb topping so as to not disturb the pumpkin filling. I flattened the topping in my hands and placed it on top then as it started to melt I could fill in the open spots. This pie is between 3.5 and 4 stars for me.

Oatmeal Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
Not too happy with my cookies sorry. The cookies turned out crumbly with a grainy type texture rather than soft and chewy. I think I'll look for another recipe.

Asian Style Country Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
I liked these ribs and ate them with brown rice. It was nice because the ribs were on the salty side (even though I used low sodium soy sauce) and the rice helped to balance this out. I think next time I might use a little less low sodium soy and add a tiny more sugar, crushed red pepper flakes and more Sriracha sauce.

Lasagna Spirals

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
I recently started eating healthy and was happy to try out this low calorie version of a classic. I took the suggestion of others and used a 16 oz bag of spinach instead of Broccolli and omitted the green onions and nutmeg. I didn't like this dish to me it need way less spinach (I only used 16 oz vs 20) more cheese and more sauce. The spinach just took over the dish and the sauce barely covered the noodles, in addition I found the taste to be bland and lacked something. I think I'll stick with a cheese or meat version from now on.

Easy Cheese Ball II

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
This wasn't bad. I cut the recipe in half and am glad I did it makes alot. I added more cheese and substituted chopped Walnuts for pecans since that was all I had. I did notice that the cheese ball was a little strong due to the ranch dip mix and I can see it being Salty. Maybe I will try this again using an Onion dip mix instead.

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2012
If I could give this 10 stars I would! Everyone loved these and I ran out! Here's a tip, if you dump your sugar on a paper plate, wrap your wieners with the raw bacon and spear them, you can use the toothpick to pat, roll etc it around in the sugar. The sugar will stick to the raw bacon, rather than trying to sprinkle it on, you'll get more sugar on and it will be closer to an equal amount on each one. Once you've done this and laid them out, sprinkle some more on them before baking and when they go into the crock pot dump the rest of the sugar on them. Do not use colored toothpicks the color will leave a small stain/run. The serving size is inaccurate on the recipe, the actual serving is closer to 8-10 instead of 16.

Fried Broccoli

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
As is this recipe has some potential but the Broccoli would have been bland. I added salt, pepper, minced garlic and a heavy amount of Mrs. Dash. This turned out ok but nothing to write home about.

Day Before Pay Day Fried Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
Made this for dinner tonight and followed the recipe. The rice was in no way similar to any fried rice I have ever eaten. The rice was beyond bland and had no flavor at all. Sorry this was just awful.

Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
Ran into a few problems with these. First you have to wash the caps but no matter how well I dried them and how long I let them sit they just wouldn't get completely dry. I then filled them accordingly and baked 12 minutes per reviews. The caps were done but the mixture of olive oil, grease from the sausage and water ran all over the place. Lastly to help I had to broil them for a minute or two but alas nothing helped.

Spicy Beef Curry Stew for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
I made this tonight and it turned out alright. My husband liked it and thought the taste was a medium heat. I thought it tasted ok but felt it had too much onion and Jalepino. I also would have preferred the tomatoes to be more of a stewed consistancy rather than diced. I will make this again for my husband with a little more heat next time.

Caribbean Jerk Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2011
Made this tonight for dinner and there is no way this is jerk. I easily quadrupled the Cayenne pepper, added red pepper, tripled the ground black pepper and added crushed red pepper and it still had no flavor and wasn't even remotely hot. In addition the chops had little to no flavor. Sorry for the bad review, I tried to salvage the dish.

Pineapple Upside Down Cupcakes

Reviewed: May 16, 2014
I made these this morning and they turned out great. Some people were saying to use pineapple tidbits so to see which would be better I made half with crushed and half with tidbits. The crushed looked and tasted better by leaps and bounds. Otherwise I made them per the recipe with no alterations of substitutions, which is not like me. Here is my advice - Use parchment paper not wax, they stick worse to wax. Move them to a cool place in the kitchen both before and after inverting them, they easily get "sticky" on the bottom (cake side). I found that 20 minutes was not enough so I went about 24 to get them done. I also found it was a pain trying to push down the pineapple while keeping the cherry in the middle and covering the bottom completely. Put the pineapple down and then push the cherry through and down to the bottom to make this a ton easier.

Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
This was ok. I marinated the chicken for an hour and it turned out flavorful and tender. Really the only issue I have is that the chicken turned out a little too sweet for my family's taste. I think it would be better without the sugar.

Strawberry Yogurt Scones

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
I made these Scones tonight and they were not good at all. I needed a recipe that used Strawberry yogurt, since I had a lot leftover, so I chose this one. I read the reviews before making them so I checked the batter prior to baking them. I made the Scones by the recipe and tasted the batter it was bland and not sweet. I then added 4 Fresh Strawberries and 2 extra Tbsps of Sugar then crossed my fingers. The additions made no difference at all the Scones turned out like yogurt flavored muffins with no sweetness or flavor. I won't be making this again!

Best Black Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Absolutely awesome. I like black beans alot but wanted a tasty way to make them as a side dish with a Mexican dinner. My problem with black beans is that they tend to be bland and it can be hard to serve them by themselves and have them taste good too. I found this recipe and gave it a try, it made all the difference in the world. I will certainly make this again.

Mexican Beef Supreme

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
Made this for my husband and it smelled awesome. I was surprised because it was much thicker than I expected but the smell and taste was great. This might be good as a filler in a wrapper or over Spanish rice.

Vietnamese Beef Pho

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
I made this version of Pho for my husband because I did not have the ingredients for a more traditional version. I put out a platter with Cilantro, green onions, Limes, bean sprouts, mushrooms, jalepinos and onions then set the table with Sriancha, fish sauce, and soy sauce. He loved this and wants it again soon!
