Corned Beef and Cabbage

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2011
This turned out ok. Not much to say other than it was easy to make using the crock pot.

Strawberry Yogurt Scones

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
I made these Scones tonight and they were not good at all. I needed a recipe that used Strawberry yogurt, since I had a lot leftover, so I chose this one. I read the reviews before making them so I checked the batter prior to baking them. I made the Scones by the recipe and tasted the batter it was bland and not sweet. I then added 4 Fresh Strawberries and 2 extra Tbsps of Sugar then crossed my fingers. The additions made no difference at all the Scones turned out like yogurt flavored muffins with no sweetness or flavor. I won't be making this again!

Best Black Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Absolutely awesome. I like black beans alot but wanted a tasty way to make them as a side dish with a Mexican dinner. My problem with black beans is that they tend to be bland and it can be hard to serve them by themselves and have them taste good too. I found this recipe and gave it a try, it made all the difference in the world. I will certainly make this again.

Spicy Beef Curry Stew for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
I made this tonight and it turned out alright. My husband liked it and thought the taste was a medium heat. I thought it tasted ok but felt it had too much onion and Jalepino. I also would have preferred the tomatoes to be more of a stewed consistancy rather than diced. I will make this again for my husband with a little more heat next time.

Peanut Butter Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2011
I was leary about making this and didn't expect much. I had leftover Chinese noodles and needed a recipe to get rid of them. I made this and it was awesome. I used Super chuck peanut butter so the consistency was nice with that little added crunch. I will make this one again!

Mexican Beef Supreme

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
Made this for my husband and it smelled awesome. I was surprised because it was much thicker than I expected but the smell and taste was great. This might be good as a filler in a wrapper or over Spanish rice.

Vietnamese Beef Pho

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
I made this version of Pho for my husband because I did not have the ingredients for a more traditional version. I put out a platter with Cilantro, green onions, Limes, bean sprouts, mushrooms, jalepinos and onions then set the table with Sriancha, fish sauce, and soy sauce. He loved this and wants it again soon!

Steak Tip Marinade

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2011
This marinade was ok. I made it according to the recipe but like others cooked it in a slow cooker. The meat turned out tender and moist. I found the marinade to be a little too sweet for me. I think I might try this again but add some chili pepper sauce and/or crushed red peppers and cut back on the bar b que sauce or use a different kind that has some kick.

Asian Style Country Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
I liked these ribs and ate them with brown rice. It was nice because the ribs were on the salty side (even though I used low sodium soy sauce) and the rice helped to balance this out. I think next time I might use a little less low sodium soy and add a tiny more sugar, crushed red pepper flakes and more Sriracha sauce.

Maple Walnut Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
I made this pie tonight. I thought it was ok the topping is what sets this pie apart from any other pumpkin pie I have made. You have to be careful applying the crumb topping so as to not disturb the pumpkin filling. I flattened the topping in my hands and placed it on top then as it started to melt I could fill in the open spots. This pie is between 3.5 and 4 stars for me.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
Oh my god, I made this cake tonight using a fudge marble cake with Butterscotch pudding and 1 cup Butterscotch chips and 1 cup Chocolate chips. I was scared when the cake started to cool and the edges felt a little hard not to mention the fact that the cake felt like a 10 lb cake but it was super dense and moist too. I will certainly make this cake again and try several different variations!

Slow Cooker Thai Peanut Pork

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2011
Made this tonight and turned out wonderful. I basted the pork loin throughout the day and loved the flavor of this dish. I omitted the bell pepper and the green onion as I had none and frankly didn't miss it. Will keep this one and make again!

The Supreme Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
I make shepards pie regularly with ground beef but have never made it with roast beef. This was a great way to get rid of my leftover roast beef. I used this as a base adding a can of creamed corn a whole jar of savory beef gravy and 1/2 can of petite green peas. I omitted the onions and only used 1/2 lb or roast beef well shredded as this was all I had.

Lasagna Spirals

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
I recently started eating healthy and was happy to try out this low calorie version of a classic. I took the suggestion of others and used a 16 oz bag of spinach instead of Broccolli and omitted the green onions and nutmeg. I didn't like this dish to me it need way less spinach (I only used 16 oz vs 20) more cheese and more sauce. The spinach just took over the dish and the sauce barely covered the noodles, in addition I found the taste to be bland and lacked something. I think I'll stick with a cheese or meat version from now on.

Basic Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
I made ham and bean soup tonight and followed this recipe using it as a base. I made the following changes mostly based off others suggestions and the soup was wonderful. I omitted the celery, I halved the recipe so I used 2 cans of beans as well as their juice, 2/3 lb bacon fried drained and crumbled, 1 can of chicken broth only two cups of water and 2 chicken Bouillan cubes. I do most of my cooking by taste and so I continued adding fresh ground pepper until satisfied which was alot. I will save this recipe and my notes and make this again, thanks for the starting point.

Japanese Onion Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
Made as is the soup is bland and tasteless. I added an extra cube of Chicken bouillan, more garlic, extra salt and pepper as well as a Tbsp of soy sauce to obtain some taste. I think the soup has potential with a decent amount of tweaking.

Healthy Living Twice-Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
Made these twice baked potatoes and they turned out well. I used a 2% milk Mexican blend, omitted the onion slices added some garlic and added some chives for extra flavor. Overall this was a nice tasting low fat side dish.

Caribbean Jerk Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2011
Made this tonight for dinner and there is no way this is jerk. I easily quadrupled the Cayenne pepper, added red pepper, tripled the ground black pepper and added crushed red pepper and it still had no flavor and wasn't even remotely hot. In addition the chops had little to no flavor. Sorry for the bad review, I tried to salvage the dish.
